Hi folks,

My little 7 month old is progressively getting worse when it comes to bathing.his heart races when put in any type of water. I worry he's going to have a heart attack. I tried sponge bath/wipes and it doesn't get him as clean but I can live with that. The only problem, I can't hold him wrapped in a blanket enough to trim and clean all toes. Especially the gunk underneath. All the scrubbing in the world and it's so tough to get the nail white like I used to when he was tiny. Any suggestions?

Use a towel to burrito him in. Have you tried a bath in different places like the sink? Some have better luck filling the bath to chest level on the cat. :)

I remember my Ossi was much more calm when we used the bathtub and had the water up to chest level. But then he peed in there... also, try to keep calm even if he's not, and talk to him. I think they feel when we get frustrated.
The claw cutting does take time in our house, sometimes I have to take one paw and leave it for another day. I've tried treats of all kind, but no... And that black stuff, I know all about it. It's really heard to get to under the nail. I usually tried q-tips and rolled them on the underside of the claw. Good luck and don't give up!

@Lizzardkitty
I have 4 bath haters
Baby wipes domt seem to work so great on my crew
So noe for spot cleaning I take a teenie few drops of Hylt shampoo (soap free hypoallergenic )
Into a pticher of warm ester eoth baby face clothes.

@Zab et al , For nail gunk I now use makeup remover wipes alcohol free - actually using thr equate brand for $1.00.
I put kitty on my lap and gently push back the toe skin amd clean around the nail beds .
On one toe it seems I actually have to gently push the skin underside area to remove a clump of gunk ewwww - I never knew it was stuck there until I started wiping toe bed areas with the makeup remover wipes

Nail Gunk /makeup remover wipes

With my one boy It seems like so,ex days I can only trim nail or two at a time .
Sometimes a human nail clipper works quicker and easier when they are just chilling on my lap and I quietly take the human Nail clipper amd trim a toe or two

Hugs. It really can be trying. Lots of great advice here in this thread.

@Yoda mom Turned me onto using makeup remover wipes for nails, and it works great. Max's nails have been almost impossible to get perfectly clean. But I find quickly dipping the makeup remover wipes in hot water and squeezing out the excess really helps.

I had to try different bathing techniques because mine absolutely hate water. If you can glean anything from this post of mine, that's great. Max & Min’s Spaw Treatment Routine

Thanks folks. I do the towl burrito but Clark is getting too fast. I will try the makeup remover. I have tried different levels of water and no luck. His older brother hates water but tolerates it. I won't give up because it could be a phase. I'll keep you posted.

So I tried the makeup wipes on Lizzard's toes and wow they work. I did today notice his pinky toe was swollen but I soaked it in the antifungal soap and I'll keep an eye on it. He has a lot of toe skin. Clark will get the makeup remover toe cleaning on Wednesday so stay tuned.
Absolutely gorgeous photo. I'm so glad that the makeup wipes work for you too. And I love the fact that we all keep learning from one another here. The education just never stops.

@Lizzardkitty , thank you for keeping us updated !
Hope the toe heals fast
I cut a toe nail too short once and it swelled s bit so I did the soak like you did and it healed up
Did he injure his toe?
My boy hated soaking his toe in a cup when vet treated him years ago for "pillow foot "

Do you have a pic of the makeup remover wipes ?
(I make sure oil free alcohol free )

Glad the wipes worked ! Yah!
I can't believe the gunk it helped slide out between the skin on each side of the toe nail I never knew was there
Seems like only one toe builds up gunk more than other toes

My Clark just fought me and won't let me get the gunk litter in his toes out of his back feet. I'm paranoid it will get infected so I'm going to try to do the last foot tomorrow. He's been through a lot. I have had no issues until now. :(

Some days they are more patient than others - some days I can only do a few toes and then the rest the next day .
I alway give treats and praise after .

My boy complains amd even mock nipped at my hand in protest .
He has gotten better over time.

You're right. I am in contact with the breeder still I've gotten my boys and she also said that it's normal and the boy's father hates baths and to cleaning. Like father like son!!! IMG_20180711_075508.jpg

Will he stand in some warm water? I'm just wondering if you could just encourage him to stand in some warm water with a little bit of shampoo, just to help loosen some of the dirt?
