This is for anyone who knows TICA color etiquette:ThumbsUp:

How do you register a white kitten who has a black kitten cap? Do I register her as white, even though there is a small possibility the cap will remain? or do I register her as bi-color, but the cap will likely fade out eventually?

thanks in advance, this one has stumped me, as I haven't dealt with kitten caps before.:Dizzy:

Wouldn't this be a Van black and white?

That's why I'm unsure. I don't want to register her as van and then it disappears in 12months.:Dizzy:

In dominant white, they sometimes have a black spot (kitten cap) to show which color the white is masking. It usually fades and leaves them pure white.

It's only a little spot, so I'm 99% that its a cap rather than her being van.

Hmmmm...I was going to say Van myself--never heard of a kitten cap. Boo is my only white cat--can you write TICA and ask? Or don't they help with things like that?

Its a little black spot, Susan. Never had to register one before, but the last cat I had who had one, it faded when he was about a year old.

It's a coated kitten, so I wonder if that makes a difference? (pigment on coat and not on skin? will have to check its scalp.)

The only thing that's making me question it, is because she has dark siblings so it may be a true spot.

Will try TICA see if they can help. Will hold off registering for a couple of weeks and see if it alters any.

I've heard of these before. From what I have researched, the black mark usually fades by adulthood...so I would hold off for a weeks until, if you decide to ask the TICA. Maybe you can just register her as a pure white, and if the black never goes away, then perhaps you can change her color on the registration sheet? I'm sure that this isn't the first time that this has happened before, so hopefully the TICA will be willing to help and make the change. Good Luck!
