hello,

My Sphynx kitten (5month) has started to have a puffy and red eye lid. I took her to the vet and they said her eye looks fine and couldnt see any scratches or ulcers. On the way to the vet she kept trying to get out of the cat carrier and was rubbing her face on it which made it look worse by the time we got to the vet.

The vet gave me ointment to put in her eye and I did as instructed but by the next day the tissue around her eye looked like someone punched her. Called the vet and took her back in to the vet the next day and her eye was almost back to normal, very strange! Well it’s been a few more days and it’s starting to get red and squinty again. It doesn’t seem to bother her and she doesn’t scratch or paw at it. The vet gave us anti inflammatory meds when we went in the second time but doesn’t seem to be doing much. I don’t know if this could be allergies, her playing and being licked by her older Sphynx brother or what. Anyone have any ideas? No discharge or anything like that either!

@Meagan , welcoming you amd your two sphynxies to the lair family !

Hope you can share pics of your boys! What are their names?

I am sorry your kitten is having eye issues

I am currently dealing with a kitty with an eye issue too

I took her to local vet amd them to the referred eye specialist -

In retrospect IMHO I would have gome straight to the specialist -
The visit and test was $160 - we ruled out entropion etc , got new meds amd his healing amazingly fast in 3 weeks like a whole new eye!

The specialist did mention eye issues can be related from the feline herpes virus . She said not to test for feline heroes bcz of false results possible .

The eye specialist examined him, cut through the chase, ruled out several eye problem potentials,
Gave him new meds amd we are on the road to recovery !

The medications were about $120
The eye specialist office actually called in his prescription to Sam's club ! Amd with a plus membership the meds were $30 instead of $90! He gets famciclivor amd it has worked wonders
She also put him on an over the counter I drop vet gel they suggested I could get cheaper on line !

So, I really was impressed with going to the specialist !

(I wish I would have gone there first for a through exam and testing not avail at our regular vet which with multiple visits added up the to office visit fee amd exam at the specialist )

Do you have a pic to share of your babies eye?
Did your vet refer to am eye specialist ?

Poor baby .. Healing vibes and Positve thoughts

Please keep us updated

I will be calling the vet again in the a.m. to see if we can see an eye specialist. I know it’s not bothering her but it’s bothering me :)

They gave us neomycin ointment but we stopped after the first day cause her eye looked worse. Don’t think it was the ointment as much as it was her trying to get out of her carrier. Then we just got done with oral anti inflammatory. Her eye started to look better then started getting red again.

These aren’t the best photos but you can tell her left eye is just a bit puffy. Her name is dusty!

Hi! Welcome to the lair your baby is very pretty

In the picture I see a little puffiness but nothing alarming. If she’s not bothered and tolerates the ointment is keep using it. The ointment won’t work after only a day. It takes at least 3 days to see a change. It is also very important to complete the cycle prescribed. When antibiotics are stoped early it encourages the bacteria causing the infection to become immune or tolerant to the medication. I’d say if it continues past the antibiotics cycle then definitely see a specialist! Like previous comment said it could be something a specialist would diagnose quickly. For example- due to inner eyelid or lashes being inverted.

Thanks, she has my heart already. Probably why I’m all freaked out!! I will see if the vet says it’s ok to try the ointment again. They did say that it would be odd for the ointment to do that. I just need to check to make sure I can give her the ointment after giving her the anti inflamamatory meds. Thank you all for your response. This is her with her brother dirty!

My one boy gets red around his eyes as if eye lids are irritated. Make a cup of tea (green tea if you have or normal) let it cool down take cotton wool or tissue dunk it ring it out a bit wipe the eyes I normally do it twice in a day at different times and it sorts it out. It can’t harm to try

@Meagan , Awh they are precious! What are their names!
Positve vibes sent !

I have had good results erythromycin ointment amd also Terramycin ointment
You could ask the vet if it would be indicated for your baby

sometikes they are Senstive to litter scents amd litter Deodorizers too
Just wanted to mention as we have seen it with some kitties

I ended up switching to Dr elseys unscented litter in the blue and white bag as well as
Fresh4life odor destroyer (very similar to dr elseys) amd it's often on sale at petsupermarket .

Lairs prayers for your baby amd keep us updated often
