I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere — I keep on getting zero results with the search function.

I have a wonderful 2 year old female Sphynx named Toni. Recently, we moved into a new house with very large windows that have direct sun exposure for a few hours every morning. Toni loves to sunbathe in the window. I’m concerned that this places her at greater risk for skin cancers. My wife insists it’s cute and not a danger.

I wonder if anyone here has any thoughts for how to reduce her exposure to sunlight from the window. We may get window treatments but are currently focusing on remodeling the nursery for our upcoming human child.

The second photo is the window in question when it’s not in direct sunlight.

Thanks!

Morgan

oh boy do i know the struggle! we live in a basement and have one small window that grim loves to sit at all day. it’s normally fine in small doses but yesterday he got pretty burned on his head and it’s scabbing up a bit. i’d say the head and face are the most important as they’re the most likely to get burned, so my partner and I just purchased a sphynx sun hat on etsy, haven’t got it yet but hoping it helps.

pet sunscreen is also an option but i’ve heard that it doesn’t work well. I’d say a hat and possibly UV clothing would be your best bet, or window tinting. wishin u guys the best!

@mcgordon1978 welcoming you and adorable Toni to the lair family. no apologies needed for asking questions.

So glad you are asking questions .all paws are family! Beautiful big windows! My adoptee Batman came to me with severe pigmentation from sunbathing in window(gotcha day pic below) . It did clear up on It's own i several months..no meds or creams. he was vet checked by vet by previous mum.
Several members have installed window tint.(may see previous posts of window tint or sunbathing

I did not tint windows personally. I put a fave tall cat tree with small foot print 24"x72" in an indirect window area. I do not use any products on skin as sunbathing lotions can have toxic ingredients and or clog pores
Batman is 12 and 1/2 urs old now and never a sunburn again or with my other 2. We are here for you! Hugs n head smooches adorable Toni! Look forward to lots of pics and tales!

Ours love the windows too. Again some apply tint to their windows. Ours are pretty good about moving in and out and if I think too much exposure, I entice them to go in their cube bed by putting a blanket in the dryer and they go right in because they love the heat.
