I know the topic of Sphynx, the sun, skin discolouration comes up a lot but I haven’t seen this exact question. Does anyone’s Sphynx get a tan in the sunnier/warmer months? It has recently transitioned to becoming very sunny and warm where I live and my 18mo Sphynx has developed slight ‘tan’ lines on her wrinkles. At first I thought this was oil but she still had them after a good bath. It’s not a concern but I am curious if anyone has noticed their Sphynx tanning slightly at the start of summer. Not a great pic but the best I could do.
Our two are real sun worshippers (although we don't get a lot of long sunny days in England compared to some places!) I do notice that their skin develops sun pigmentation and and moved their favourite blankets , beds, trees etc out of the line of direct sunlight. I did once ask the vet if there were any safe sun blocks for cats but they said they were not aware of any .I guess cats can just access all areas when licking themselves !
Yes we have seen pigmentation changes in summer months, especially with Azura our tuxedo. One year she got a very dark patch. It disappeared once she stayed out of the windows.
Thanks everyone! Our house has so many windows so it’s hard to keep Misty away from them. It seems ok and not severe or ‘burning’ necessarily, I was just surprised to see her skin tan slightly, much like human skin! Glad to hear this is a common occurrence.
@Misty Lee 123 , some members use window tint .
sharing my boy does get a little dirtier in the creases along with sun pigmentation.
hugs n head smooches
