Occasionally my 8 year old male Sphynx will have cough attacks where he will stretch his neck out and start wheezing. I took him to the vet and they could not find anything wrong with him. They even did x-rays. Does anybody else's Sphynx do this and do you know why??

@guest My boy Toa does the same. A few times a week (but not every day) he will stretch his neck, hold his head close to the ground and coughs. It sounds like something is stuck in his throad but nothing comes. My vet didn't find the reason. The vet said not to worry cause it's not an every day issue.

I observed it and I see him do this when he wants attention and I don't give him enough attention right away. I also see him do it when I'm preparing his food and he thinks I'm not fast enough. But I also see him do it without a reason (or at least a reason as far as I see). So yes I have a sphynx how does the same but don't know why.

Most of the time when he's coughing and I say "Toa, stop it" he stops coughing.

If you find the reason your sphynx is doing this I would like to hear it!

Thank you! We use the dust free crystal cat litter and have been for a while but he has also had this problem for a while too.

Can you share a video of the episode? Just upload it to Youtube or Vine, even Instagram and just paste the URL in the post, it may help others identify the problem. Perhaps asthma?

That link didn't work. This one should

This sounds a little like the weezing cough @admin posted of the cat with astma. But not quit the same. It sounds different then the cough from my boy who is just asking for attention. I don't know what it is. I think is best to show the video to your vet.
Or maybe somebody else chime in who regonize this.

Hi Guest,
Our lovely female Sphynx is doing the same!! She is just over 10 years.
Did you ever find out what it was with your male or how to make it better or anything?
Thanks

Has your baby had a heart scan recently? At age 10 I would personally rule out any heart issues as well.

My 7 year old female does the same, the vet said it could be seasonal allergies. Have her some prednisolone for about 2 weeks and it stopped but came back as soon as she wasn’t taking it anymore
