So my kitten Luna had a bad reaction to the pain medication she was prescribed after her spay. We were in and out of the vet all weekend and since then I've been giving her new pain meds and antibiotics by mouth, which she hates. As well, she loves to run and jump but I've been trying to limit her activity until her incision heals.

She was very affectionate until yesterday, for the first time she seemed to want nothing to do with me. I feel bad, because I feel like she's associating me with all the blood work and gross tasting medication.

She still sleeps in bed with me but has stopped trailing me around the house, talking to me, and giving me head rubs. As much as it pains me to keep her quiet and give her medication, it's for her own good, but she doesn't understand that.

Will her and I be friends again once her antibiotics are done and her spay incision heals up and she's allowed to run and jump and play as usual? Or have I lost her trust forever?

My guess is she is just not feeling great and will be back to her regular self once she heals he is off of pain meds. Pain meds re supposed to slow them down a bit so they can heal faster etc. she probably is just feeling the effects and feels tired. @LoonyLuna keep us posted. How are you giving her the meds? Are you masking them in treats, pill pockets food etc or just administering with nothing?

@Catzzzmeow The meds are administered via syringe by mouth. The vet said to administer without food as they don't taste good and she may not get the full dose if she doesn't eat everything.
She hates it -_- so I am really hoping she doesn't start hating me too!
She does still get random bursts of energy, which is usually followed by me trying to calm her down... But because of that I've taken her tree away and limited access to certain areas of the house. So I'm also hoping she's not getting depressed

Ah…yes liquid meds can be a challenge if nasty tasting and no food allowed. Our one girl gets a liquid med every night and although it is chicken flavored, she is not a fan. I have to be quick. One tip I will share if you aren’t doing it already, slowly squirt it in and don’t shoot to the back of the throat fast or they often throw it up and also is massage their throat/neck area after you squirt it in…it helps to soothe them a bit.

Usually pain meds are only for a few days thank goodness. Kudos to you though in taking every precaution to limited her movement so no set backs or tears. @LoonyLuna

Thank you, I gave that a try this morning and it made a huge difference!

I'm definitely doing my best, she's a little goofball so sometimes if I'm not paying attention, instead of slowly going up her stairs to get on the bed, she's running up them like she was never given pain meds... So fingers crossed when I take her in for her check everything is good!

Thank you, she's slowly getting back to herself, today is definitely a good day! Can't wait to give her a bath though, she's getting dirty (especially her tail!), a warm washcloth just isn't cutting it haha
