Well it’s been a minute but we have successfully introduced my adopted duo Dolly and Otis to the dogs, Otto and Pablo! It took a lot of time and patience but it has paid off tenfold.
I will be honest as I wasn’t sure how Pablo was going to react to the two nekkids. He has a bit of a prey drive especially with squirrels and his history was unknown as he was abandoned by his previous owner. Literally he was tied to a fence at a veterinary clinic and left. I fostered him through the rescue that I work with and had to adopt him. He was such a love and he was attached to Otto I couldn’t imagine splitting him up to a new home.
Anyway this was how I did it. We started with the kitties in the bedroom with door closed. We did that for about a month they could hear/smell each other but no interaction. Then we moved to door opened for brief periods of time and a tall dog gate. They could see each other and I would feed the kitties while the dogs were on the other side of the gate. We did that for about 3-4 weeks. Then we moved the baby gate to the end of the hallway and the kitties had the hallway and the bedroom. The dogs had the living room. We spent weeks like that I was sitting on the floor on the side with the kitties and watch tv or read and let the dogs get used to them in their space. Then lastly the introduction without baby gates… the dogs were separated during this part. We would have one in a different bedroom and the other on a leash and the cats had freedom to roam from the living room to their bedroom which is their space no dogs allowed. We now have completely integrated them!

@kauna melt my heart!! Happiest hugs n head smooches! Thank you for sharing your sloow intro plan! For decades I have done the exact same into with my rotties, malinois n aussie. All adoptees. Duke was an abused rottie ,tied to tree embedded collar. A true labor of love n perseverance to keep all paws safe for the end game win. When I went to work, I rotates free roaming keeping separate when I was not home. Worked on proofing time.
I did slow unsupervised free roaming. Going to a separate room, short-time outside , drive around the block etc. Built up to all free roaming for my 10 hours I was at work. All went great withvthe exception of my then fiances aussie adoptee who always had a hard eye, so she was only supervised interactions. I aM a firm believer in slow and steady wins the race. You did it! Be proud! Look at those adorable photos ! Thank you for sharing! Hugs n head smooches to all paws. Look forward to pics n updates!

@Yoda mom thank you!! We still don’t leave them unsupervised for long periods of time. Definitely worth the work though. Especially considering the boys, both mastiff breeds (boerboel and perro de presa canario) I am so lucky to have been able to adopt both Dolly and Otis. It was definitely meant to be.

Yippppeeee! Kudos to you for successfully transitioning your crew and having the patience to keep all safe. Love the pic…looks like Dolly and Otis have always lived there. You must be so happy and less stressed. I wonder if/when some extra playtime with the dogs might happen lol?

Thanks for the kind words @Yoda mom and @Catzzzmeow I couldn’t agree more with patience is key.
They do seem like they’ve always been here it is so heartwarming to know that they are comfortable and happy. I am beyond grateful! It was one long year since Aggie’s passing. I was really missing having a cat in the house.

We finally had some sunshine yesterday so I decided to open the door and curtains to let the light in the house. Otto was guarding the front door. Dolly and Otis were both sunbathing. Pablo’s spot is on the couch.
