Hi there , I was thinking about traditional foods or meals that are not special but traditional to where you are from / live
Ok so here we have a traditional Full English Breakfast consisting of ;
Bacon , Eggs , sausage , hash brown , beans , tomatoe , mushrooms , fried bread , toast and tea . That is a traditional English Breakfast
So then you go to the Traditional Sunday Lunch consisting of ;
Roast Beef or Roast Pork , Roast Lamb sometimes even two meats depending on time of year
Roast potatoes
Boiled potatoes
Yorkshire pudding ( its savoury very nice )
At least 3 veg
Gravy ( yum yum )
Stuffing and which ever sauce goes with the meat ie Roast Lamb & mint sauce
A traditional Sunday lunch desert is the all time favourite
Apple pie with ice cream / custard / cream / squirty cream

It’s normally a traditional Sunday lunch we have at Christmas lunch served with turkey and / or another meat
Would be nice to know what your traditional. Lunch / dinner is
Hugs

My family does Thanksgiving: Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, a few types of casserole (green bean and squash are my fave), cranberry sauce, gravy, just heavy comfort foods.
Then Christmas: Ham, mashed potatoes, green beans (not usually a casserole for Christmas), stuffing, and usually another veggie like carrots.
I'm not sure my family is traditional though. I work most holidays so we are hardly together for them...and so we have "Thanksgiving" on another day.

This is a fun thread! It’s great to learn what is traditional food in other countries.

Here in the Netherlands we eat christmas bread for breakfast or lunch. Looks like this

And on New Years Eve we eat deep-fried raisin/doughnut buns as a snack

Others may make this different...but I can give you a recipe for squash casserole :)
3-4 yellow squash, sliced
1-2 yellow onions
Cook in a pan on stove-top until soft (preference)

1 can cream of chicken soup
1 sleeve of saltine crackers
1/2 shredded cheddar cheese.

combine all ingredients and cover with additional 1/2 cup cheese and bake for 325* F 20-30 min until cooked thoroughly and cheese is melted

Green bean casserole is much easier
1 can french cut green beans
2 cans green beans
drain and put into baking pan
add 1 can cream of mushroom soup
add 1/2 tub french fried onions and mix together
top with other 1/2 of french fried onions and bake 20-30 min with the squash casserole

@Yoda mom I do remember a conversation were you said you don’t cook
I think if I lived alone I would live on sandwiches lol only cause I’m lazy and can’t stand without my sticks I do miss cooking I loved it and I love to iron
I’ve digressed again lol
My dad used to say about my mum
“ she can’t cook won’t cook “ or was it dad begging her not to cook ah ha I’ve no idea how the five of us children survived ah
Dad however is an amazing cook ... I could write some of the mishmash meals Dad made up himself you would laugh. Your head off

Yellow onion is probably what you would call a regular onion...similar in size and shape to the red, but...its yellow :)
Saltine crackers are I think what you would call "Club", they are used in soups, salads, and for upset tummies.
French cut are just prettier LMAO! They are like julienne sliced, instead of just chopped...idk how else to describe them.

Never had lob scouse, what is it and hot to make it?
Never heard of Hot pot either, but we have shepard's pie..How do you make yours?

Our traditional foods have changed over the years, as kids in the family have matured and adults are trying to keep in shape. When our son was little, Christmas breakfast was Huevos Rancheros, homemade cinnamon rolls and Mexican hot chocolate. When I was a child, Christmas dinner in my family, as far back as I can remember was Dungeness Crab (everyone over the age of 10 would get half a crab), sourdough bread and tossed salad. Then after the family caroling service at church, we would have the extra-special treat of ice-cream snowballs (vanilla ice cream covered with shredded cocoanut) with a tiny candle in it that was lighted. My biggest memory of that was my mom hovering over us, so my brothers wouldn't light my sister's and my hair on fire.

Now, it is impossible to get fresh Dungeness Crab at Christmastime, and the high-carb breakfast is sadly a memory. But my husband loves to cook and so he cooks amazing dinners. Tonight, for Christmas Eve, we had the best roast lamb, and my fave traditional dessert, pumpkin pie with real whipped cream.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Everyone!

@Toa and Ross -- This was the first year I didn't buy any Stollen, so I'm going to lick my monitor over your picture! LOL But now I wish I had some!!!!

Although I live in Canada, I'm German (Dad from Northern Germany and Mom from the South -- talk about culinary opposites too!).

Christmas Eve Day and Night were very special in our household and I'll spare you the details. But for dinner we had a VERY simple meal (probably because the kids want to break into their presents ASAP... we open gifts on the 24th evening). We had German wieners, potato salad (sweet for Dad), and endive salad (sour for Mom). Once dinner was finished, Dad would light the tree (we always put candles on our tree), and then ring a bell. We'd all go in, sing O Tannenbaum, then open presents.

For Christmas Day dinner, my Mom was nontraditional. We never ever had turkey at any time. In fact, the only time I had turkey was at a friend's house. My Mom would make either a roast or go all out and have a variety of fondue pots going.

Fast forward to Hubby and I... Christmas Eve we make a homemade pizza (although this year we're having it on Christmas Day). And New Year's Day we have Christmas Nachos.

I miss my childhood food traditions, but Hubby isn't really into German wieners, and also has food allergies.

Fun topic!

Oh, @Anita Eccleston -- I dated a Brit for a while and OMG, traditional Sunday dinners were the best!!!! Loved them.
