Before I explain we do have a vet appointment on Friday I just hope someone has seen this before and can share their experience.

A few weeks ago I notice a small lump on Phoebe's belly, near her belly button, thought nothing of it... a few days ago I notice this small swollen spot seems to have spread and now the swelling is from the navel to the chest. It's soft but retains shape, not tender, doesn't seem to hurt her. Doesn't seem lethargic, no weight loss, definitely has an appetite because she still wakes me up at 5AM for snacks.

What concerns me most is that in October she had a dental, before the procedure the vet noted a heart murmur and they did the rapid test for heart disease which was apparently negative so we proceeded mainly because the vet was a bit pushy about it (we are going someplace else now) ANYWAY I was already planning to get an echo in the next month or two but I wonder what the chances are that this is a sign of heart trouble. I also put the image into AI and they suggested possible fluid build up from FIP which seems unlikely unless she caught the virus it at the Vet during the dental (honestly with how awful they've been it wouldn't surprise me)... but otherwise she's my only cat so it doesn't make sense.

Photos are attached, hopefully someone can ease my anxiety or suggest what to ask the vet. Thanks

I can understand your concern . Firstly I don't have any direct experience to relate to your Phoebes swellings, although my Wison did have heart problems and did not show any visible signs of swellings. My girl Kiwi developed an illness when she was very young, not long after we got her , try lethargic, very high temperature etc and I was terrified it might be FIP so took her to the et. We did actually pay for the (expensive) tests which I now understand are not absolutely conclusive, but were told as she didn't have the genetic markers that can lead to the coronavirus mutating( what is behind the development of FIP) she almost certainly did not have it, fortunately that proved to be correct. From the little I know about this illness , I think your girl might be showing symptoms of illness if she had it. Now she is older, Kiwi she had developed fatty cysts inc on her belly which look a little like your girls swelling but more defined and round. These were aspirated by the et to rule out tumours. I am sure other members will have some excellent advice from their vast experiences to give . Please keep us updated

I don’t recall having seen this before. Chances are not heart related. The build up of fluid is around the heart and you don’t see it. Please update us after the vet appt. Your info can help others in the future.

@sibilsuss , Hugs n positive vibes on sweet Phoebe' appointment tomorrow. vet may suggest chest/abdominal xray in office. I paid extra to send out to radiologist with my pups and sphynx in the past. My pup had all his life an umbilical hernia by his belly button all his life yet it did not grow more than a lump in the area.

please keep us updated often, I have not seen this before. following for updates. all paws are family.

Hoping the vet offers some relief. Most swelling in heart disease is around the heart and not visible like the pictures above. Please keep us posted as it can help others in the future.
