My 5 year old sphynx has a swollen nipple. I just noticed it when giving him his bath. Does this normally happen or is it something to be worried about? Please help with any suggestions if you know what's going on. Thanks

My five year old male sphynx has a swollen nipple. I can't tell if its a lump, gland, pimple. Or what it could be. If a anyone knows if this is common or what it could be, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thank you

I think I recall you inquiring about this recently. I would have the vet check it if it has not gone down and if it is not a pimple. You will feel better getting a professionals's opinion.

I will have to. Thank you

Positive thoughts sent...and please update us. I don't recall seeing this specific topic in the forum before so it will help educate many in the future should some one else have the same issue.

Can you take a pic to share? Might help to see if a glandular issue or perhaps an irritation.

Welcome to sphynxlair, good to have you. I agree a pic might help.
It might be the best to go ahead and take him to the Vet just
to be sure. Share some pictures of your baby, we Love pics.
Let us know what you find out.

That's my boy. I will definitely take a picture tomorrow. I really appreciate the help!

He's a handsome little gentleman.

Sorry to hear of this issue. Is it red or look infected, if not, sometimes a pimple or black head can form at the nipple, if "gently" squeezed it can sometimes be popped. if it seems to bother him with you touching the nipple area, don't touch it, a vet visit would also be recommended. Oh, welcome!

You can see the difference there. It's not red though. I haven't tried touching it yet. I hate making him cry.

Any update with this? I just noticed a swollen nipple on my boy too! I'm going to try and get him to the vet tomorrow since it's a holiday weekend. Just curious what happened with yours?

I totally understand. I only remember that one cat having the nipple issue and that was recent, so that might mean they are more apt to see the alert. The Lair is a great resource for sharing common issues etc.
Happy you set up an appt. You will feel better once you know. I will be looking for your update.

Hi
I apologize for not replying sooner! The swelling went down after about a week. I think it was just a clogged pore on that area that swelled up. He has another bump on his shoulder that drains too. Any word on yours?

I took him to the vet and they squeezed it and a lot of pus came out. He's been on antibiotics for about a week, and his check up is tomorrow! It's much much smaller. The vet thought it may be related to the way his harness was fitting. It may have been rubbing enough to cause an "injury" that led to a small abscess. As far as I know his tests came back normal, but we'll find out tomorrow!
