the vet ok'd it, but.... *UPDATE*

we've decided that we want to get a second cat as a companion to kimo. i talked to my vet about it at our appointment today, and she said it was a good idea, and i should do it soon, "before he gets the chance to become territorial and possessive". kimo is 16 weeks old. he's always been around other cats, and was very bonded to laurel, so i worry that he is lonely. she also recommended another kitten, close to his own age. she said intro'ing him to another kitten would be easiest, and a kitten would adjust easiest to the rest of our crazy house. she said another kitten would also give him more confidence and will make adapting easier. we're letting kimo take things at his own pace, and i think he's doing quite well, all things considered.

i understand her logic, but i still wonder if it might be too soon. what do you think? when would be a good time to start looking for another cat/kitten? our second cat would definitely be adopted from the plethora of rescue groups in the area.

My Coco is 18 and her best friends are Meeko almost 10 and Cleo 1.8 years old.
Wrinkles still hates Polar and she is only is almost 10 months old.
Polar is almost 6 months.
I wouldet g another cat/ kitten for sure.
My Wrinkles who is almost 10 months has 2 favorite cats.
Cleo and Meeko.

We got ours 2 weeks apart so I am not much help. I can say that we took a rescue who now lives with silly4lilly's mother in law that did not get along with our Leo at all and it was very hard, but I think that was because they are both males and neither was fixed so they where fighting for well ya know:Pudently:

I would say def. do it soon rather then later. I got Snuggles Christmas eve. And I got Casper last Sat. Well Yesterday we brought her out and he has hissed and ran away but then he has been lunging at her too. He hasnt been as bad as my Siamese but still would be better I think if I would have gotten her sooner:ThumbsUp:

I think the typical sphynx may be less territorial than other cats.. with their overall temperament i think theyd do ok with a new cat at nearly any age.

Sometimes 2 males never get along it depends on the cat.
My brothers try to kill each other.
I have furry cats also.
The funny thing is they will not lick my sphynxs.

i just found this boy at a rescue in norman. oh my goodness, he's cute! i've always loved fluffy orange kitties. what makes me laugh is he's the same color, with almost the same markings, as kimo! he's like, the anti-kimo! it's too late tonight (my husband works nights, and we only have one car), but i might call about him tomorrow.

I don't know. I've had the experience that an altered Sphynx can pretty much join any other altered Sphynx household, at any age, and end up integrating pretty well. Sometimes it takes a week or two, but these are cats and it should be expected. That being said- unaltered cats seem to have a bit of issue with others- my Queens hate each other. Sucks because as yougsters, they loved one another- until the hormones started brewing!

I guess you can stack the deck in your favor if the new addition seems compatible with Kimo, but there really are no guarantees. Therefore, I think the first question should be are YOU ready for a second cat. If you feel it's too soon, then maybe you need to chill, remain open and see if "the one" just sort of floats your way. I find that tends to happen. :)

Would you ever consider a second Sphynx, like a rescue?

For everyone...Do Sphynx seem to recognize their own breed and adjust easier to their own kind?

i've read that two altered males are usually the best/easiest combo, do you not think this is true?

I think it's gonna work just fine....i have one altered male ( Baloe ) and one intact male ( Storm ) in one household....and they do fine together.....so i think that 2 altered males are gonna be even better

I love the little red guy....he indeed looks like Kimo with hair

Awwww...I must have been trying to post when you put up the pic of the Furminator! He is so cute!

I've heard altered boys do well. I only have girls and they get along pretty well. One of my Mau and one of my Zots are more "frenemies" but they manage.

I have 6 girls and one boy.
All the girls sleep in a pile except Wrinkles.
Wrinkles does no get along with Polar Bare.
Do you know if the breeder had other cats besides sphynx?
My Wrinkles only liked Cleo at first.
She was biased and would not go near the furry cats.
Now she only sleeps with Cleo or non sphynx Meeko.

well, i sent the listing to my husband, and he loves him, so i called the rescue and set up a meeting for tomorrow morning. his foster mom has other cats and dogs, so that is a good sign. we will have to see how he does with ariana, though.

m2m, kimo's breeder only has sphynxes. another sphynx isn't really an option, though (plus, i promised david we'd get a "fluffy" kitty this time), so hopefully that won't make it harder for kimo to accept a friend.

omik! i love it!

Wrinkles breeder only has sphynxs also.
She sleeps with one of my furred cats now but will not sleep with the others.
What strange cat.
Cleo and Polar do not care if they are bald or furry but their breeder has furred cats.
You can name him Simba.

I got Snuffie at 8 mths old and she grew up in a house with about 10 other kitties. I was so worried she would have seperation anxiety. But she adapted just fine and we plan on getting her a playmate this summer sometime and I'm sure she will accept him/her just fine. I make sure to take her around other animals and visit with people all the time and even the kitties she has met haven't hissed at her or her at them. I don't want her to forget that there are other animals out there besides just her. It depends alot on the cat I know but I think if you show your kitty that the new pet is a part of the family they will accept it. Just my two cents.
We do have two strays outside that sit on our deck in the mornings in the sunshine and she sits in the window and they like all hang out together thru the glass, its cute. They are feral so I haven't even attempted for them to meet AND I don't know their medical history or anything so I just allow her to hang out in the window with them. lol Poor thing. Atleast she has friends even if its just thru the glass. Goodluck introducing a new kitty if you decide too. Just remember to quarentine them for 10 days or so and let them sniff each other thru the door. I'm sure all will be well.

I don't know what the best mix would be but I could not imagine only having one. My guys are so close, they are brother and sister though.
