Hi All...
As you know, Luna had kittens, and sadly we lost one after 90 hours of battles.
Chilli now doesnt look good...shes frail, half the size of her siblings and seems to have stopped developing at 2 weeks.
Her spine is still 14 cm (base of the neck to the base of the tail), her weight goes up, but then drops down to 250-257g (which she was at 2 weeks old).
She seems to sleep all day...Luna doesn't call her for feeding (others she pulls them close to her).
They will be 5 weeks old this week. I've started to slowly wean her - she loves it...dives onto the food (belly, paws, face and all). I've tried Glop also - which she was on as a supplement to being nursed (she was doing great...her sister was actually the smallest, and she is now twice the size of Chilli). At 2 weeks old she developed a rash...colloidal silver came out, with hibiscrub and antibiotics. Rash stopped and I started Glop again (3.5 weeks old)...by then, she gained nothing. She still looks like 2 week old kitten. Her rash came back as well (which makes me think its allergy as opposed to fungal or bacterial). She loves it...but everytime she is bottle fed (flow controlled bottle), her breathing goes strange - almost like gurgling/bubbled. I tap her back to try and wind her...and it does work. If I dont, it goes away on its own within 5 minutes. I use an aspirator after each feed just to make sure nothing is in the air passage (had to change the tip to a bottle tip - a little more precise, as the other way it was too wide).
The only thing I can think of doing is isolating her completely - she knows how to eat wet food, she enjoys it...I cant leave her food out with Luna there - Luna and food does not last in the same room for more than 10 seconds. She will eat her food, my food, neighbiurs food (if she could) and still cry for more...she's currently on 350-400g daily. Plus dry...which she finishes!
What are all your opinions? Have you faced this before and didnt have to suffer a loss? Chilli is a keeper for us...I've bonded with Pepper, and sadly lost her due to vets making a careless mistake with a critical kitten, and I am not prepared to lose another one. I am fighting as much as i can for Chilli. I am not accepting defeat. I know fading kitten syndrome can happen at any stage between 0 and 9 weeks old. My mentor is also out of suggestions and ideas.
Since I've taken her off antibiotics, she started walking around a lot more. She isnt so much into play fighting as much as the others, but she is more curious. She comes, greets me, lays next to me...lets me tickle her belly...
