I was pretty depressed about things yesterday. His foot hadn't changed and he lost a stitch last night. Early this morning when I changed his bandage there was alot less drainage. I swear it looked a little less red. He is going in in anhour or so. They didn't have an appointment slot available today. Last Friday they said just bring him in and they would fit him in asap.

I did some research on his condition. It is very hard to treat. The problem is figuring out what kind of bacteria has infected him. They have part of the cultures back and the others are due anytime. Until then they are just trying the most common antibiotics. He's on Clavamox currently. All the sites I went to basically said you have to just keep fighting it. They also said a second surgery is not uncommon.

On Saturday his pain level was back up and I increased his morphine back to his max. It should be wearing off now and he doesn't look as uncomfortable. So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping and praying that maybe the antibiotics are working.

I handle most medical care things well, but seeing him in pain rips me up pretty bad.
I'll post later today or tonight.... whenever the vet calls.

Shiva thanks you for ALL your good wishes.

Thank you from both Shiva and I. It was starting to snow when he left. If I had my choice I would be sitting at the vet waiting with him, but they said it's better to wait at home. Shiva agreed and wanted to know why he had to stay...lol!

I'll be waiting by the phone. Kuma, Neon and Venus are crossing their paws too.

Neon and Venus adopted Shiva and Kuma as their parents when I brought them home. They have been very worried about dad...although he did give them both an ear wash yesterday.

Thank you all for your wishes (and Suzi for the blanket... thank you for remembering that one). Someone from the office just called. The vet will call me tonight. They are still getting supplies together for him so we can't pick him up for another 30 minutes... but he will be home soon.

I will be changing his bandages still, but they made an odd change. They have been telling me to wash it with a dilute mix of Novasan and wrap it wet....

The office just called again... Shiva is schedualed for a second surgery on the 18th. (The vet is still calling me later with details.) She said he thinks the Clavamox is going to work, but he wants to give it week then go in and remove the dead tissue. This is pretty much what I read last night. She also said he did get the lab results back.

:Cry:My poor little guy!

But that is good news! I have seen with people after having surgery for an infection, whether it be an amputation or just infected tissue, it seems MOST of them have to go back in to remove the dead tissue that was missed. I'm sure your vet would rather take too little than take too much if it is questionable.

Hopefully that meand Shiva can keep his foot!!!

He's home and so happy to be here. He loved on me for a good 30 minutes, then he went upstairs to my (our) room. When I didn't follow he came back down and escorted me back up the stairs.

The assistant misunderstood about the antibiotics. She called back and said he has two different bacterias that we have to fit. So he's taking Clavamox and a drug I've never heard of called Zeniquin. I would say with that much antibiotics in his system we aren't just fighting a battle but waging a full assult on those nasty little bacterias!

He's snoring happily in bed at the moment. The kids have bathed him. I don't know how to tell him this but Neon washed his tail backwards...lol. His little bit of fur is all standing in funny positions.

I will post later after I speak to his doctor.

For now Shiva says he's hanging in there.

Prayers for him to get better.
Clavamox never works for my cats anymore but I have heard Zeniquin is good.
Sorry he needs surgery again.

I just called them. Jerry answered and said he's the only one in the office until after lunch and he will call me back.... poor guy. That was fast...he just called me back. He said he would relay my questions and have someone call me asap.
