Hello again all! I promised a little update about how my boy handles his new diet and shampoo.

Well…I’m not sure if it is the right fix unfortunately. Ugh. I did a slow transition of his dry food (mixing small percentages over a week long period until fully transitioned over to the new) so now he is currently on wellness core original formula dry food, and half a can of wellness chicken recipe wet food twice a day. His bath shampoo is pro pet works oatmeal pet wash which he gets bathed in approximately once a week.

I’ve noticed no positive changes with his skin/tail and his poops have gotten significantly worse and completely runny. ):
He feels and looks perfectly clean after his baths with the new shampoo, although by that night he’s already brown on his underside.
I’m really at a loss on how to help him and what is the perfect food mix for his little sensitive body. What can I do? Do I just continue to wait it out with this food?

Hi! I don't consider myself an expert but I have had issues with skin problems and food. I'm now starting with Raw food! Most of sphynx problems come from their food. First, I would completely cut any chicken except chicken fat which digest differently. We must read the labels because there is chicken almost everywhere! Nulo kiten an cat duck and turkey worked well for me. Any complete fish from Acana, for example. N&D Farmina has no chicken and some of Go! Chicken causes lots of allergies or intolerance for cats. As for shampooing, 1 once a month my vet said. I do it 3-4 weeks. A warm washcloth inbetween. I use Doux0 SEB shampoo (the green bottle). You can find it on Amazon but it is less expensive at the vet or on site at a vet store. The shampoo decreases the sebum and leaves skin nice and smooth. Feeding dry and wet is a good practice.
I've started raw food because my Grizou reacts to so much food! We'll see!
Check ears for possible infections due to allergies or intolerences. Good luck!

The brown on the underside the day after washing is usually from not rinsing them fully. We see this happen on tummies, armpits, necks etc…the hardest to rinse areas that we tend to rush on.

@bumbino , hugs n head smooches. here for you. mine couldnt handle wellness. each kitty is different. My macie has IBD and the food issues were real, went thru so many slow transitions over a few months until I tried nutrisource touted for gut health. they answer the phone right away too if you have any questions. I switched my crew to nutrisource cat and kitten food (no recalls, made my same company as wellness from my understanding). even my pickiest eats it.. solid stools no skin issues. my oldest is 12 yrs old loves it.

mine hate spa day . so hard to rinse well underneath those bellies etc for me. My vet got me hooked on trizultra w/keto about 15 yrs ago for ear cleaning. I like its unscented too. it can be used as a skin flush so I use it for weekly wipe downs. you can ask your vet about trizultra.
years ago I started doing weekly wipe down with trizultra on swissper cotton pads. really gets the brown off undersides, bellies, armpits, necks chins, rear legs, tail. I do weekly wipe downs, pat dry. I can go quite awhile now between full baths. my vet got me hooked on trizultra w/keto to gently wipe ears with swissper rounds and wet qtips with it. I use it around nail beds . I do not use it on the face, I use a warm water wash cloth on faces.

forgot to ask is he neutered? hormones can cause skin things like "stud tail".
are you able to drop off a stool sample to the vet?

I’m looking into nutrisource as my next option if things do not clear up by the time I finish this bag of food, I don’t want to have wasted my money by not using it. His skin seems to actually have worked itself out! Soft and only mildly dirty now. (It is nearly his bath date so soon he will be fresh and clean!) the only issue I’m still having is his dry tail and his nasty poops.

He is neutered as of January this year. And I have not sent off a sample of his stool. I know he is not sick or infested with parasites at least if that is why you asked! other than his runny poops and dry tail, he is the typical energetic, playful, and loud little teenage nakid lol.

I've been having similar issues.I've removed all traces of chicken expect chicken fat from his diet. That helped a lot. Then I went with a protein he had never eatten, duck. Be careful to read the ingrediences because chicken is everywhere! That really helped. No more soft or liquid stools. His skin got eventually better but still a bit more sebum. I changed to limited ingredience which had duck only but eggs. That's didn't worm for the sebum! He got patches of dark grey. Now I'm trying raw with Hill' s prescription d/d venison. It's a long process. The Hill's d/d seems to be doing the trick. The raw is rabbit only Beyond by Nature. You have to do a long trasition for raw...like this is my 2nd week. The Hill's is only at 8pm to make sure he has digested the raw and for now 1/8 cup. That's my jouney! Today his sebum is almost gone but his dark patches are still there. Patience!

His tail is still a bit dry but almost all of his blackheads have cleared up and the dry skin on his tail has been flaking off over the past couple days, it looks really good and smooth underneath!

Hi! Glad things are improving. Have you tried pumpkin purée for his runny poo? Get it at a pet store or better, make your own but not pie filler! You can give about a tablesoon a day max...start slowly. They usually love the taste. However, if you feed them too much, it can go the other way! It really did the trick for mine!

I have actually! When he was younger he had some soft stool and I began feeding him pumpkin. It never really helped harden his stools, only give the soft stool more of a shape lol. I stopped after a while when I realized it was not working, and he got to where he wouldn’t even touch it. He never liked the taste haha.

You might try the regular Wellness food and not the Core line. Both are grainfree, but Core is higher in protein as well as fat and it might be a bit too rich causing runnier poop. As I searched for food for our crew, we tried to go for the highest in protein, but some gave one of ours runny poop so I looked for one less rich and that did the trick. Wellness is still a high protein/quality food just not as high as Core. @bumbino

I have actually! When he was younger he had some soft stool and I began feeding him pumpkin. It never really helped harden his stools, only give the soft stool more of a shape lol. I stopped after a while when I realized it was not working, and he got to where he wouldn’t even touch it. He never liked the taste haha.

Ha! Like said they usually like it...yours not! Did you give him everyday? If so, it may have been too much. Remember it has the reverse effet if given too much.

I'm giving mine Hill's proscription d/d or z/ d now. It seems to work .

When we went to the vet and checked the poops for parasites and came back negative we started them both on Purina Fortiflora powdered Probiotics. It only took about a week and their loose poops were gone! I sprinkle a packet on the wellness food bowl I give them in the morning or u can give them a small bowl of water with it mixed into it in the morning. It really helps the belly! It was the only thing after months of litter box gagging for me!

We tried that too! Unfortunately no positive. I went through a whole box of I believe 30-60 packets and there was no positive change to his stool at all. ): he sure loved the taste though haha. ❤️
