So here comes Christmas and we got each of them something and hubby an iPad. Toni took a peek at her interactive toy and walked away. Foxy investigated it and did the same. Foxy got a heated bed. She prefers the one Toni came with. Toni checked out the heated bed because we put catnip in it. End of that story. Biscuit got a moving snake. Shrugged her shoulders and that was that. We recovered the tallest beloved scratching post and everyone had a scratch and looked for the old one. But the old saliva drenched toys now dirty from being hidden under the furniture…those they look for and speak about their disappearance if you “steal” them. Anyone know if there is a way to wash the banana, the little mice, the kicker rat? Putting nip on a new one isnt the solution.

@tuffysmommy , awh, reading I can picture them! I bought my moms cat Jeffery furbaby a bunch of toys. walked away, could are less. I tried some with my crew last night, got a bat the bell ball out of Batman, (then I stepped on it by accident and broke it), Tobylove loves his dabird refill and squirmel toy, Claire Bare, well, she is a hoot, she sits on the toys like all mine! then waits for the boys to wallk away and she goes back in her blankie.

members will surely chime in on cleaning tips.
I keep on hand Duravet chlorhexidine my vet office uses. I get it on chewy/ online. I got the gallon and wow lasts forever bcz of dilution rate. they sell a smaller bottle online.

I vacuum the toys with my little ryobi 1 gallon vacuum.
then I mix the duravet chlorhexidine.
I dilute per instructions and keep in spray bottle, takes just a teenie bit of solution mixed in water. I spray a washcloth ( I keep the 18 pack white walmart face cloths for the crew). to damp and and gentle wipe the drool toys. lol I have even dried them with a blow dryer on low.
I keep a jar of catnip in freezer in ziplock bag, and moosh the catnip toys in it to freshen them up.
the yeowww banana is a fav here and well worn and they still prefer their old one, just like the same with their cardboard floor scratchers here.

for the hard toys, cats and dogs, I put in a dollar store bucket with a few sprays of chlorhexidine, soak for about 10 minutes , then rinse and let dry.
I even spray pet bedding, dog beds with a little duravet and toss in laundry.

I use the chlorhexidine too to clean pet dishes, even my ole formica kitchen counters and stainless sink.

this is a great thread you started! can' wait for more tips on cat toy cleaning.

hugs n head smooches!

I feel your pain. We have had countless toys that are looked at and them ignored in favor of the yeoww toys that have been licked into near oblivion. And Cleopatra knows every one of the 10 yeoww toys, so getting rid of them isn't an option. Like Claire Bare, Cleo also gathers them all together and lays on them to impart even more stink into them. But I don't clean them. I do watch to make sure they don't become dangerous, and the toys that finally disintegrate land in the trash. Cleo, in particular, so loves her old, yucky toys, that I just don't have the heart to clean them.

Of no help here. Ours get really nasty and we replace. If it those catnip toys where you can remove the nip, you might try throwing the outer piece in a lingerie bag and wash it. It might work.
