Johnny and I took a road trip yesterday. We went to go see his breeder and see one of his babies go to his new home. Johnny was not a happy man. He hissed and growled the whole time, even in the spare room that the cats dont go into. When I brought him in the house, he hissed and lunged at everyone who acted like they were going to touch me. I have never seen him like this. I was kind of embarassed :Surprise::Surprise:

It was understandable but I wonder about showing him? I think I really need to socialize the little man a little more! Once we got on the car he was all laid out on the seat like he owned the place.:LOL: I love him....he is such a character!

She has the most amazing cats. I stayed there for house and asked questions and talked about things. It was so good for me. Thanks to you guys I had lots of questions to ask.

She has all sizes and shapes of kittens. Old cats and babies. She has one retired breeder that spent most of her life producing kittens in a cage. When Johnnys breeder got her and found out that she had over 100 kittens and that she was covered in scars, she had her spayed and now lives the life of a queen. She is the sweetest thing in the whole world. She has had so many kittens that her hips are spread out and the waddles when she runs! It only ads to her character

I had no idea the normal Sphynx kittens can be so small. I think I have an elephant instead of a Sphynx :Surprise::Surprise:

Anyway......I just thought I would share our outing with all of you

Sounds like you had a great time. I am glad that she rescued the breeder girl. That is so sad that she was forced to stay in a cage a produce babies!! At least she is loved now. Good Luck with showing.

Yeah I try and socialize my guys by taking them to the pet shop and stuff. They came pretty good from the breeder though. I would try to take him for small trips and let him get used to others. I feel pretty lucky with mine, they are always social with people. Twitch does not like dogs, she growls at them, even though the breeder had dogs.

What a great trip! I would love to visit a cattery like that one day. I have never seen a sphynx kitten in person, are they smaller than fur kitties?

I bet Johnny did not like the smell of the other cats.
If you show him cover his head when you go to the rings.
I was looking at your breeders website.
My Cleo is well socialized but she acts bad at shows.
She got clawed by another cat in the ring and ever since then she hisses and growls at judges because she smells other cats on them.
When is Johnnys first show?

It was so awesome! I was in heaven and I think they were all smaller than Johnny! Some of the kittens were smaller than normal but I think I am just used to seeing Johnny. He had one baby that was huge just like him and then another was pretty tiny so I think just like any cat they range in size :Laugh::Laugh:

Mews2much........You ask when Johnnys first show is.....Well someone told me that I should show him in the alter category so I could learn more about the breed so I have thought about it but thats it!

Have you? That is good to know. Yes he is an alter and I am looking to becoming a breeder but was told that I would learn about the breed more if I showed him.

You are doing it the right way.
I was told the same thing.
You get to learn what the judges like and do not like about your cat.
You also get to see what they like about the other sphynx cat that go against your cat.
I showed yesterday and am showing this weekend also.
Do you want to show in TICA or CFA.
I can give you advice on showing if you have any questions.

Sounds like so much fun and very interesting! I need to socialise Mugs more too as he growls, spits and attacks anything he doesn't like :Dizzy:

Glad there's someone there to help you with all the info...I think having a mentor in anything new you go into is always a great idea.

Jacky, interesting you should say that, cause that is what I was doing with Hibou at her first show...Her 1st ring she was good, the second one, she pretty snarly and by the 3rd I had to take her out of the cage for the judge! That judge watched me walk away at the end and she called me back over to tell me that I shouldn't cover her head. I should let her see what is going on around her so she is not freaked out when she is in the ring, and you know what, it worked, she was somewhat better behaved after that...she said it allows them to see what is going on around them so they aren't feeling so threatened by just getting the smells of it all.

That was her opinion and it seemed to work for Hibou...we'll see at the CFA show in a couple of weeks...just thought I'd share something new I learned!
