Mirror mirror on the wall, ButterBall's dad is the dirtiest of all. Especially after a weekend of camping.

in my house one male was rapidely dirty, it was the Hanky horror show !

Now he is fixed for about 6 months now , he is more clean...because of hormonal changes. The skin is more dry too...

Moonstone, I noticed the same thing with my boy Walter after he was fixed. He is not as oily and doesn't need a bath as often. His "stud tail" is going away, too. I'm most happy about that - it was gross!

OK my old cat was a male but I have no idea what a stud tail is? What is it? :Woo:

Hi Kalliee,
Its caused by hyper-secretion of the glands found at the base of their tail. On a cat with fur, it would show up as thinning or matted hair at the base of the tail, but on the sphynx it looks like a bunch of blackheads. :Badly2:

Stud tail is most often seen on unaltered male cats (raging hormones!) but can occur on any cat. Most of the cats I've had have been male, but Walter is the first one I've ever had with it, so I don't know how common it really is, or if its just more obvious on the sphynx...

It can be treated with special shampoos or I've also read waterless hand sanitizer (like Purel) or degreaser (??) but I wouldn't put any of that on my cat without checking with the vet first!! Fortunately neutering Walter did the trick and his blackheads are starting to go away on their own. :Woo:

Yeah, it was gross, but he did lay there and let me squeeze them... I'll admit, I got a tiny bit of enjoyment out of it...haha *bows head in shame*

Lol, we all have our own strange little OCD's. I'm a picker, poker, and a squeezer myself!

Both my boys have stud tail. One is a little angel, he lays so still while I "clean" him up. The other is a nightmare to "clean"... I have to wrap him up like a burrito. I actually have one female who also gets the little black heads on her tail, not as bad as the boys though. What I find strange is that she is the least "greasy" of all my cats, but yet she does, occasionally(hope I spelled that right!), get stud tail. Weird kitty .....

I too am a picker and squeezer...lol. My unneutered male has never had this. He seems to get blackheads under his chin when he is dirty. He seems to get more dirty than my female. Or maybe this is because he is pink and it shows better than her darker color?!?!?!

I don't have a boy baldy, but Abby gets sooooo DIRTY!!! it seems like an hour after her bath she is dirty again:Hysterical:...i agree though i think that the fact that she is pink makes the dirt show up more

Jack is perpetually dirty. Of course he is the worst one to give a bath to. I am a picker too. I am constantly picking at their nails to get the black stuff off.

I'm glad to hear that our Walter is not just a dirty anomaly! He seems to get dirty a half hour out of the bath! He's white too (well, pink I guess is more accurate) so the dirt shows.

I hear some have tried coconut oil? does this really help clean? Walter has webbed toes (do all sphynx have this? lol) so he gets dirt in between his little piggies that's darn hard to clear out, even in the bath!

YUCK!!!
I'm not a picker, but my hubby is. He would think stud tail was Christmas...lol...

My girl is a mess. I have to give her a bath every 5 days or you cant stand to touch her, she's so oily.

I don't necessarily think it's the gender as much as it is their hairlessness. Gio (male) has more peach fuzz and dirt doesn't tend to stick to him as often. He gets a bath about once a month. Nyiah (female) on the other hand is more rubbery with very little fur on her body (more on her face) and the chick is DIRTY! She couldn't keep clean if her life depended on it! She's going to need a bath once a week! Errrrr!!!

Gio is on the left- Red Sphynx
Nyiah is on the right- Chocolate Sphynx

Wow Gio looks a lot like my Mo, Mo is also a red sphynx. The avatar pic looks so much like him!

I'm hoping color plays a role. Harry is a red point and he can get filthy but the little girl I'm getting in May is seal point. Maybe if I can't see it than she's not dirty. I've tried cleaning all his favorite hot spots (my mom though I was a little OCD when I mentioned that I wiped down the hot water heater) but he still finds the dirt.
