Poor thing wandered into the living room Sunday night with a huge puffy eye. We coned him and did a cold compress, and took him into the vet Monday (It was a last minute visit so it was my back up vet, not my usual one) where he was diagnosed with feline herpes *sigh*

I'm a worried mess. He was given clavamox and triple antibiotic, and I was told to keep him coned (he was so maad, heh). So.. we did that. Still didn't look any better Tuesday night, the steroid shot they had given him Monday had worn off and it was really swollen again, and his third eyelid was covering half his eye. I called in, vets called me back to let me know the swelling probably wouldn't be down until Friday.

Wednesday night he was coughing, so my normal vet had me bring him in to make sure it wasn't in his lungs (It wasn't!) she said it was throat irritation, and decided to change the original triple antibiotic that the other vet had had him on to tobramyacin because she said it treated this stuff better. So we started that last night. Through all this though he had been eating well, and drinking a lot, and had enough energy to play a little bit.

Today though.. It took a while for me to get him to open his eye for me but it looked even worse  the inner eyelid was not only coming in from the side but now from the top and bottom too and I could hardly see his eye. He also spent all day sleeping and hasn't played at all, and has only eaten half his can of wet food, whereas he had been eating two the day before (He's normally on one a day!)

I'm worried sick. I'm calling the vet as soon as they open in the morning to talk to them about what happened with the medication change. I just want him to feel better. It also doesn't help I'm pmsing, stressed about school, and having family issues so I'm halfway convinced he's just going to keel over while I'm holding him which is destroying me  Someone tell me I'm being irrational about that last bit?

Thanks you guys. *sigh* I have no one to talk to about my kitty who really understands.

You poor thing. You are doing everything for him, the only thing I would add is some lysine to help give his immune system a boost.

O noes! Poor Dorian... I agree with the l-lysine for his immune system & hope the meds will kick in soon. You are doing everything you can for your baby and we understand how you feel. We all wish we could be sick instead of our babies, it's so heart breaking to see them suffer :-(

Thanks you guys  He's doing better this morning, having been switched back to the triple antibiotic ointment. A little more energetic and eating again!! The swelling has also gone down again so I can see at least half his eye again.

I'm going to half to go hunt down some L-lysine. I want to give him everything I can to make him feel better.
