Glad I came across this group!

I found pumpkin at an organic coop store. $4 per can, I bought one. Cosmo smelled it and almost gagged! It was kind-of funny, his little tongue stuck out as he coughed! He won't eat the cooked chicken anymore so he really hadn't eaten in almost 3 days. I dropper fed him just so he'd have something in his body. Last night I bought 5 different kinds of food hoping that one of them would make him purr with delight. Let see, I tried Go! natural, Wellness (which he had in the past), Soulistic, store brand fancy feast (chicken as the first ingredients) and baby food. I opened each can one by one while Cosmo gave me the tongue at each except the store brand. He ate almost the whole 3 oz can! He held it in for almost 12 hours. No vomiting and then went liquid poop which oddly had no smell. So today I bought more of that food. This time I dropper fed him 2 teaspoons of pumpkin and then let him eat. He ate half the can and then drank tons of water! I hope this is a good sign! I don't mean to ramble on and on I am just hopeful that's all. I can handle the liquid poops I just want my 8 pound cat to gain some of the 4 pounds back that he lost...oh and feel better of course!

Has anyone heard of Diar-eze or used it?
I am thinking about trying that along with the pumpkin.

So glad Cosmo appears to have picked up!!!

Keeping fingers and paws crossed he'll start getting his appetite back and his poops improve with the pumpkin...

Sounds like things may be getting better! Hopefully this works! I have never heard of that stuff. I am sure others will chime in.

So sad to here of your kitty being ill, these cats are (well I know mine is) sensitive to quick changes in food and takes a while to adjust. I sure hope things work out for your kitty soon! If you can get some good enzymes back in her little tummy I wonder how she would do I know this stuff called- Natural Balance transition powder- I bought it for my cat when I couldn't get the food she was use to being on. It is meant to add good bacteria into the belly like the stuff you find in yogurt! especially after all that diaerhea ? and vomiting she has been suffering with she will need it im assuming. I use to have a doberman who had sensitivity stomach issues always lick our yogurt containers and it worked like a miracle... I really hope you can find this stuff and sprinkle in her food. Of course it's just my two cents as I've never had an animal as sick as your poor little sweet heart is....good luck and please keep us posted!

We had the same problem with our older boxer for years, and it was bad! the vet did every test under the sun and nothing. I tried boiling chicken and rice did not help, meds did not help, you name it I tried it then I started adding pumpkin to her food and we have had no problems ever since about 3 months
In your case I would go back to his favorite food and just try to add one spoon of pumpkin mixed in with his food, no meds just pumpkin and stick with one food and don't change it. Changing to often and too fast can cause or make these kind of things much worse.
Hope this works and your little buddy get some relief.

Hi 2baldies and welcome to Sphynxlair! Sorry to hear about your baby. It sounds like possible irritable bowel syndrome. Pumpkin is best and try and keep to one food when you find a happy medium. Changes in diet too often can cause stomach issues. Add bran or another fiber supplement to your cat's diet. Ask you veterinarian for suggestions. You may need to try some different options or combinations to find what is right for your cat.
If the Irritable Bowel Syndrome is the problem your veterinarian may prescribe an anti-anxiety medication or antacids such as Pepto or anti-diarrhea medications such as loperamide to manage symptoms. Always consult your vet first.

That's the problem, Cosmo will not eat his favorite food anymore or any food that is high quality. I have had no choice but to try every food out there. He used to be on kibble only and now won't touch it. I know this store brand fancy feast is not the highest quality and it was not my first choice but he is eating it!

The pumpkin has seamed to make no difference at all yet. I tried a tiny bit mixed in with his food. He took one bite and walked away. I hate having to force feed him anything. It seems so mean to do but I will keep trying.

The vet suggested tagament for the acid but I agree that his bacteria and enzyme levels are so out of whack that it's going to take a long time to fix. For now I'm sticking with the cheap canned food and force feeding pumpkin...we'll see how it goes.

I am so thankful that I listened to my heart and kept him comfortable at home! Now I just need to get his herpes flair up under control. He is sneezing all the time.

glad to hear! for the flair ups have you tried lysine? this should help with this, and is safe to give every day. Start out by giving double doses until everything is under control then just give the regular dose daily for maintenance
