Instincts TC by Feline Future

Hi there I am very new to RAW, BARF and the world of Sphynx's too. I have stumbled across a product which sounds too good to be true.... so is it?

Has anyone had any experience in this supplement before and what are your thoughts on it?

I'd love to try it, but am having trouble finding it. Added dilemma of me living in Australia

Any help is greatly appreciated

I just googled it and it reminds me of the same kind of thing that Feline Instincts sells that I used to use. I went to the TC site but coudln't see whether they ship to Australia or not....you could try Feline Instincts with their My Natural Cat supplement.--don't know if they ship or not.

I have sent them an email for a price list, etc. Hope they get back to me soon.
I wouldn't have a clue how to check if customs would allow this product through or not. I'm guessing with the airport or Australia post maybe?. Hope it will get allowed through.

Does Australia have a dept. of agriculture? I would google food impoort restrictions --I found this:

Looking at the Aussie government website, i cant bring anything in maybe posted is different. I'll look further into it.

I read the pdf, and I wouln't use that food, it talks about keeping food like necks, milk with eggs mixed in and cream to feed your cats also....and they add fruits and vegetables--but only 5% it says. I don't feed my cats any fruits or vegetables--they aren't made to digest those things. I would keep looking. But if it is your only option, it's better than other commercially available pet food...when Feline Instincts contacts you ask them if they send anything to your country--they may already know if it's ok to ship to Australia.

I was also a little concerned about the fruits and vegetables.

I wouldn't consider feeding him any supermarket commercial grade cat foods like whiskers or purina. In my eyes they are junk. My vet described them as being like feeding your child only on mc donalds! It shouldn't be allowed to be sold. That was enough for me to never buy that rubbish.

I want to give him the best of the best. For him to have a happy healthy life.

I also kept on digging around for TC but they only ship within Canada

My breeder feeds him Kangaroo mince, chicken mince, a tiny bit of Ox heart and science diet baby kitten kibble.

Do you have access to the roo? Do you know of any place you can get whole ground rabbit or chicken or turkey? Any butcher shops or farmers that will grind whole animals for you? Which won't ship to you? Feline Instincts? Or the Darwin raw food?

I can get a whole chicken no problem but not sure if i could get one with liver, heart kidney, etc same with the rabbit, and turkey.
Roo is easy, meat wise. There are so many of them here. The best i can do with Roo would be tail with the bone. I wouldn't be able to get organs etc from the roo unless i slaughtered it myself, which i'm not willing to do!.

I could always ask one of the butchers here for a entire chicken, rabbit, etc. If i was able to get that, what part of the animal don't i want? the intestines and stomach i'm guessing?

Well i got an email back from Feline Instincts and unfortunately they cannot ship to me due to all of their products having egg yolk in them. another one bites the dust.
I have however found a recipe... let me know what you think of this one.

Also what is a fryer/stewing chicken? sorry but i'm not used to that terminology.

A fryer is a chicken that is young and usually between 3-5 lbs. The meat is tender and the parts fit nicely in a fry pan--it was raised to be eaten. A stewing chicken is older and was bred to be an egg producer--after awhile(1-3 yrs.) the hens are then slaughtered for eating, but the flesh is a bit tougher--withstands the prolonged heat of stewing in a pot on the stove.
Whole chicken for our purposes means everything but the head feet, and feathers I believe. You could most likely discard the intestines and maybe the stomach--but everything else is good for the cat.

I read the recipe and it sounds perfect. I liked the site a lot--really explained the process well. I saved it to my favorites list.

What a relief thanks so much Susi

At least now i know what to go out and get myself and away we go. I'm thinking it'll work out cheaper for me to add the extra hearts instead of hunting for taurine power/capsules. I'll also add a can of salmon instead of finding the salmon oil. Cod liver oil is readily available here but i haven't seen the salmon.

Don't add the salmon--cats should only have fish once a week. You should be able to buy fish oil capsules in the vitamin section of your store. Just puncture the capsule and squeeze it into the food. Also, I would look for the taurine--unless you buy the hearts fresh from the farmer, the taurine gets leeched out when it's frozen and it's essential to your cat. They can't overdose on it, and they need it--so I would look for it and add it. Major health issues if they don't get enough.

Also, you don't have to grind the meat as much as they reccommended--it's good for you cat to have to chew--it cleans their teeth. Fine ground is fine for kits, but I feed my cats coarse ground and when I was making my own, I often left chunks with the ground stuff--it exercises their jaw muscles and cleans their teeth.

Are any fish oil capsules ok, or should it be salmon? cod liver oil capsules are everywhere here, i could always hunt for the salmon oil caps.

My butcher sells the hearts, liver, kidneys. Fresh not frozen. They aren't allowed to freeze anything here unless it is stated prior to sale. Even then they only freeze big marrow bones for dogs.

It's almost impossible to buy a complete chicken, but i will hunt further at the chicken factories like inghams and steggles.

My little man will only be 12 weeks old when i pick him up, so should i fine ground or leave it coarse? and at what age should i change it to coarse? sorry for all the questions Susi. But you have been such a great wealth of information.

If you can't find whole chickens, can you find cornish game hens or pigeon or quail? Rabbit? Your recipe will work equally well with any of those. If you can't find whole bird, does Australia have any other fowl that you can buy whole? If so, that will work, if not use the cut up chicken, but use the dark meat like thighs more than the breasts....and add chicken liver, heart, and gizzards if you can get them--but especially the liver. And make sure you include the bone.
As for the fish oil--I googled it and this is what they say:
if cod liver oil is used, check the label to make sure the oil does not contain vitamins A or D, as both are highly toxic to cats.
My kittens are 6 weeks old and they are eating the coarse grind---but I check to make sure there aren't any big bone chunks--at the time your kit comes home, a medium grind will be fine and a coarser one within a couple of weeks to be cautious.

I'm not sure that we sell any complete birds at all. Might ask my uncle for a complete bird, he owns a farm... I'll get him to clean it up for me, like de feather it get rid of the head feet etc. That's if he agree's to it. If not i might have to stick to the whole chickens without their insides, i can buy them separately

Looks like the next step for me is to find myself a good grinder.

I have a quick question.... how much do i feed Yoda?

Is it 50 grams 3 times a day or more?
Do i include kibble or not? (science diet baby kittem)
if not do i wean him off of the kibble slowly... mix with raw, over a couple weeks or what?

No---dfon't mix the raw in with the kibble---they digest at different rates and can cause him to have a sick tummy. Kits usually don't miss the kibble as much as older cats, so you might not even have to wean him off it. If you still do---feed him a small amount of kibble as many hours apart as possible from the raw food. But honestly a kitten will be happy with what you give him. I would just omit the kibble period. Then watch to make sure he continues to grow and gain weight and muscle mass--if he needs anything else to put on weight, you can give him baby food---but use the meat only kind---I occasionally use chicken with gravy or turkey with gravy. But make sure there is no tomato or spices in it.

Thanks for that my breeder gives him roo mince mixed with liver and heart, but also gives him kibble. So i was a little lost. She always has kibble down for them to munch on and feeds him 3-4 times a day with wet/raw food.

So how much do i feed him? in grams? is it 3-4 times a day and about 50 grams or 100 grams?
