Hi, I am new to Sphynxlair and thought I should introduce myself and my two Sphynx.
My husband and I bought our first Sphynx because I have been a cat lover all my life (I owned a Siamese growing up) but my husband is horribly allergic to cats.
Now, I know Sphynx are not hypo-allergenic, but we also did our research and learned that some people with cat allergies can tolerate Sphynx or Rex.
So, we went to see a Sphynx breeder, and fortunately my husband did not respond at all to her Sphynx! So we decided to get an adorable Sphynx boy, our first Sphynx, Dragonheart. After having Dragonheart for a while, we decided to get another Sphynx. Dragonheart's breeder only had a furred baby from her latest breeding, so we went looking for another breeder.
Both of our boys we bought in Germany, as my husband is an officer in the Canadian Forces, and we were stationed in Germany for four years while he was on exchange with the Germany military engineers and then working at the NATO engineering centre of excellence.
Our second Sphynx, Merlin, has claimed my husband, and constantly rubs my husband's face, sticking his nose and ears in my husband's mouth and nose! He sleeps next to my husband, curled up under his chin. And my husband has absolutely no reaction to him!
So Sphynx have been wonderful for us! Of course, now that I know the breed, I could never go back to an "ordinary" cat again, even if they came up with a cure for cat allergies! They have just totally charmed us and won us over.
We are now back in Canada (our two Sphynx obviously did the move with us across the pond - we went business class to have lots of room to take them in the cabin with us). At the moment, however, my husband is deployed to Afghanistan (Canada's combat mission there is over, but my husband is part of the group that is getting everything torn down and packed up to be sent back to Canada). So I am trying to give both boys lots of attention.
Dragonheart has very mild HCM, but fortunately it is very mild, so it does not impact his quality of life. He gets regular scans, but, for now, it is so mild he does not need to be on any medication. Dragonheart is our sensitive boy. He is devoted to me and loves my husband, but he is shy and seems to get stressed easily. He does love to play though! He also has food allergies - he can't touch anything with any poultry in it at all.
Merlin is our "wild child." He gets into everything! He is constantly on the go and constantly exploring. He is a purr machine, always purring, even at the vet! He loves people and loves attention. He will eat anything and everything - he loves to share yogourt with my husband, but will also eat apple strudel, like the remains of my fruit smoothies if I let him, etc. Right now, he is the one worrying me, as he may have a fibrosarcoma on his leg from a vaccination.
Dragonheart was named by his breeder - she had "themes" for each of her litters, and for Dragonheart's, it was "Fairy Tales". We liked the name, so kept it. Merlin had a different name - "Bijan" - but we thought Merlin suited him and went well with Dragonheart.

Your boys are very handsome. So lucky you have found the HCM early and can start meds as soon as needed. You have two very lucky boys
