Kind of curious

I'm curious, is it custom to not tell someone of a contract on a sphynx until after you've paid full breeding rights price and are waiting on papers? i had no idea of a contract until today and now i won't get papers for her until i sign it but it was never metioned to me i don't know what do you all think?

From a total non-cat perspective, you should have been notified of this stipulation BEFORE you ever put down any money. On one hand, you shouldn't have put down money without getting the whole story and what you would be obligated to do. On the other hand, they should have told you everything and not taken your money before they knew they were being totally clear. to be totally honest, you may have just lost your deposit money if you don't like whats in the contract. However, you may be totally OK with the contract and things might work out great for you.

That seems strange.
I signed Cleos contract when I picked her and sent the deposit the same day.

I mean i like the person i got her off of but it's just that is was never metioned to me i don't have a problem signing it as long as it isn't something rediculous i understand contracts protect the animals and the client , just was confused if it is something that happens often.

well yeah i do too like before i picked sanura up i've had sanura for months now and i'm just now finding out about the contract.

The breeder should have been up front about the contract.
That is bad business sorry to say.

We do except deposits on our kittens and the contract is shown day of the deposit. Then upon picking up your kitten we would go over the contract with you and all parties sign and get copies.

You have had the cat for A few months and are just getting the contract now? That should be done before the kitten or cat leaves the breeder that way the cat is protected as well as the people?

yep i've had her for a few months and am now getting the contract it confuses me as well and the only thing i can think of is because i called and told her about a week after i had her that she was sneezing and i took her to the vet and he said she had an upper respirtory infection so i'm guessing she is worried about if there is something wrong with her she doesn't want to be responsible, i have no clue but sanura is fine now and back to health.

If you have the registration paper work for Sanura I would not sign the contract now after the fact, Have you read it? If the breeder had no contract when you first gave A deposit and then purchased she can't just come up with one now? Did she say why she is doing this and why so late?

I would not sign the contract either.
I like do know why she did not have a contract up front.
Did you take her to the vet within 72 hours of getting her?

Here's a recommendation. I used to be an auditor. Most contracts are fairly straight forward. Read it when you get it. If you don't like something in it, change it. You have just as much right to change the contract as she does giving you one. Especially since you already have the cat.

I didn't have a contract with my breeder. At least not a written contract. She just told me not to breed him without letting her know so we wouldn't end up breeding Butterball with his sister or something crazy like that. Ball has many many siblings throughout the country. I'm sure some of your sphynx's are Ball's cousins or Aunts or Uncles. I lived up to my end of the deal which was get him neutered and don't declaw or breed him. And, take him to the vet should he need it.

One other thing. The contract could protect you too. God forbid your kitty gets sick and you lose him/her. Your breeder should be responsible for a short period of time. Otherwise you'd be out a nice chunk o change.

I think you'll probably find you are already following most if not all of the contracts guidelines so signing it probably won't be a problem.
