Kosar's Memorial

[Cleopatra Beers]

Elle managed to find the photo she wanted to use for Kosar's memorial. I am posting the mock up of the painting here as it is in loving memory of. No Kosar was not a Sphynx but he was the loving associate of sphynxs and therefore, in my opinion qualifies unequivocally. The painting will be 4' high and 3' across, a very large canvas, but a fitting memorial indeed.

One of the things I do when working on a commissioned painting is I post photos of the progress. Here is a shot of the 4'x3' canvas with its grid and a printout of the mockup I use as my reference.

Here is the next step, the canvas has been gridded and Kosar is sketched into place. This is going to be one huge puppy portrait.

Here is the next step. The background is roughed in, being careful to cut the color up to but not over the lines of the drawing. Once the oil paint sets enough I can begin putting the color into the portrait itself.

Here is the next photo of the progress for Kosar's portrait. The background is roughed in and I am about halfway through the initial layers in the portrait itself. It is beginning to look a little like a painting now.

Step 4

Everything is now roughed in and then comes the really hard part...waiting for the paint to dry enough so I can begin putting in the details, all the little touches that take this from being just another impressionist painting to a work of art. (I am not a patient artist)
