Meat Grinders?

So, I've pretty much decided I'm going to do the raw diet for Yoda, and I can read through the threads and figure out foods and proportions and whatnot, but my question is, What Meat Grinder do I buy? What caliber of machine should I be looking for? They range in price, and I dont mind spending money LOL - I would just rather buy something that is going to work, than something that is going to break a month after I get it. What grinders do you have?

Well Dalia, I don't know anything about raw but I think several on Sl do grind so hopfully, you should get some good info.... Yoda is going to a wonderful home!

Look on eBay for an old Spong cast iron Grinder or Mincer and grab yourself a bargain. I used to have one for my Bulldogs & English Bull Terriers and those thing will grind anything and everything until they fall apart and by the look of the stuff out there for sale now that won't be until at least 2500

If you are going to be putting mice thru it, why not give it whole? chewing bones is great for their teeth. Grinding gets the bone in them, but with no cleaning action to their teeth.

Lol, well, if I was going to be feeding him mice, I would. Eddie doesnt know any better. All he knows is there is going to be a creature crawling around our apt that he gets to pet and play with, other than that, its all on me. As if I mind! But he just wants a separate grinder for us and one for Yoda.

their customer service is also great...I had incorrectly put mine together and it stopped working...i called and the owner of the company called me and walked me through step by step how to fix the problem. So helpful!!! Which isn't easy to come by these days...

I second the tasin grinder from one stop jerky shop. I feed my cat and dog raw and do a mix of ground and whole bones for chewing. I usually do the ground food in the morning and then something whole for the dog in the evening. The cat won't eat whole so he gets ground for both meals. I brush both of their teeth everyday so don't worry to much about plaque buildup.

Yes, I ordered this and made my first batch of raw and it was super simple and easy and the bones were not an issue at all! I am super pleased with the Tasin Grinder.

I have the meat grinder attachment for my Kitchenaid stand mixer, but it probably won't handle bones? I'd like to go raw, but my vet keeps giving me new things to try for Bea's diarrhea, so not changing her food yet from canned grain-free, so that I'm changing only one thing at a time.

Anyone add Wysong's mix to ground boneless meat?

Yes, I ordered this and made my first batch of raw and it was super simple and easy and the bones were not an issue at all! I am super pleased with the Tasin Grinder.

I'd have to agree with everyone who has recommended the Tasin grinder. It works great, easy to clean and easy to assemble. It also gets a lot of good reviews if you do a quick google search for meat grinders. I also purchased mine from the One Stop Jerky Shop. It came within a few days and worked right out of the box. Happy grinding!
