Thank you all so much! I hope all of you are doing well tonight. I am still trying to get myself acclimated to this site, so please bear with me.

Rosebud and Levi were born April 17th. I will be picking them up on July 23rd-24th. I am so looking forward bringing them home.

I will definitely post more pictures when I receive their updates. I have been enjoying the photos of your little pumpkins so much. They are all so cute ... and the outfits, oh my word, they are downright adorable.

Have a lovely evening.

Hi everyone!

I hope your day is going well. Thanks for all the nice feedback. Rosebud and Levi say thank you, too :)

I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me how to swaddle two kittens at the same time? What type of fabric and size towel/blanket will I need? How hard was this to do?

When I pick them up at the airport, I am not sure how it will be going through security. My worst fear would be of them somehow getting out of their harness and running off into the airport. Yikes! I have ordered their harnesses to be made, but I with them growing day by day, it might not be an absolute perfect fit. Hmmmm. The designers are putting in place some adjustments that can be made, but they suggested it might be a good idea to swaddle them together in a receiving blanket burrito-style, making a "kitty burrito". I have swaddled a baby before (longer ago than I would like to admit), but never two small kittens together. I have looked at swaddling blankets and at receiving blankets. Is a 42X42 swaddling blanket going to be too big? Are they going to get lost in that? Is a smaller size better to work with at their age? Should I go with a lightweight material that is very breathable, so they won't overheat, or will that be easy for them to get out of quickly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the lighter side of things, I have photos of their outfits that are being made for Rosebud and Levi. It will be in "Their Clothes Closet" Album. That is not them in the actual picture, but some cute kitty models. At least it gives you an idea of what I am talking about, and hopefully a good laugh!

Have a wonderful day enjoying all of your little pumpkins!

Hugs and kisses,

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I used to work airport security what we used to do is pass the bag around and hand search it. I don't think they will do that anymore. The other thing was to take the animals out and have the bag x-rayed. As long as you don't set off the metal detector or end up being a random search it should be fine to walk through holding them both. The less you carry through the better. I wouldn't bother swaddling them.

Who are you flying with? Have you made sure that it is not against their policy to have 2 pets in one carrier with only one human escort? Or is someone going to be traveling with you? I know often times there is a pet per bag, per person or pet per flight limit.

I am assuming you have already checked with the airline concerning this and they know you will be traveling with two kittens in the cabin.

I hope this helps some! Keep us posted!

Re: NEWBIE-traveling with new kitties

:Wink:Hi Megan,

Thanks so much for the quick response! Here are a few more details regarding the flight. I am flying Delta. It will be just me and the kittens traveling. I do have the little cuties booked to fly. It will be roughly an hour and forty-five minute flight. They will allow me to have both kittens in one carrier on board with me. So far, so good. Here is the rub: When I travel, I now have to go through the body scanner, due to bilateral hip replacement replacement surgery. When I go through that scanner, they always have me put my arms above my head for a few seconds. If my arms are in the air, I won't be able to hold them. Also, their harnesses have a metal hoop, so that would have to be taken off, right? The carrier will have go through the scanner, right? How about a private screening? Do you think that would be the best way to go? Does it take a lot longer to get a private screening? I want to make sure that I adequate time to get through the whole process. You know how best-laid plans go sometimes!

Thanks so much,

Tammy

You can ask to be searched first and once they clear you go back out and get the kitties, send the carrier through, go through the physical screening, put the cats back in the carrier and then they mey want to search you again.

Just be polite and explain your situation, make sure they are aware there are cats in the bag! One time a passenger didn't say a word and put the cat, bag and all through the xray machine. I was watching the monitor at the time and needless to say I almost threw up. Not because it was gross or anything but the idea that someone would not inform us. How traumatizing that must have been for the cat.

I know that the screeners can be pushy, but speak up, it is their job to help you. Or you could ask if an agent can assist you through security to help with the kitties.
