Raw diet questions

Hi Guys,

So we are new sphynx parents to our gorgeous little girl, I'm so confused about what to do and done a lot of reading I found the document put up on the forum really helpful,

Our kitty has been brought up on mince and egg yolk chicken necks etc to ensure she's getting all she needs as well as having royal canin kitten kibble available all day.

We have transitioned her to big dog for cats kanga mix which I've read good reviews on, she lapped it up yesterday night and this morning she did a poo which was fine just sticky then didn't eat much then tonight did a little diarrhoea, she's been sleepier than normal and could tell she wasn't feeling the best, but still drinking, we mixed a little mince with the kanga feed and now she has her appetite back ate a little and is now her normal self at this time of night and playful.

I'm assuming that the switch to the pre made raw food is playing a part.

Should we leave the kibble available as well all day? From what I have read it seems people say it's a bad idea to feed kibble and raw diet. Again I'm a little confused as there's so much conflicting information.

I guess just looking for some assurance, and thoughts on "Big dog for cats Kanga" here's a photo with the ingredients, what do people recommend as the "best" pre made raw food available don't really care how much it costs.

The dry food (kibble) has to be feed so
many hrs in between. I don't feed raw.

@Chr1ssso – The kangaroo based food looks really good. Kibble can definitely be fed, but not at the same time as the raw. Allow for approximately three hours before or after raw feeding when providing kibble.

Transition can take time (1-2 weeks). So there will be fluctuations with respect to activity levels and elimination. However, if there is vomiting then it's possible there is an allergy involved. Kangaroo is a fairly rich protein, which is very good, but may not be accepted by all cats. One of mine loves kangaroo, and the other does not.

Please also be aware that kittens will be high-energy one minute, and wanting to sleep the day away the next. Unless you feel that your kitten is unwell, that is simply a part of being a kitten. I used to freak out every time my first Sphynx was sleeping the day away. The reality is that they grow during the sleep cycle. So after lots of sleep, watch out for growth! LOL

Thank you so much for your response, yes the sleeping thing got me at the start also but once I saw her patterns I wasn't as worried.

She at a whole bowl of the food and after the dhiorreah is hesitant to eat it but we noticed mixing a little beef mince in she goes for it so see how we go transitioning her to it.

If she works out she doesn't like roo they make chicken and also a turkey one as well, not sure if they do a beef.

We are feeding her a roo meal in the morning about 60-70 grams then again at night with kibble available during the day.

Thank you again for your comments, I'm a first time cat owner my wife has had one when she was a child and we are both smitten over her.

@Chr1ssso -- Sphynx addiction is real! LOL By the way, add a quarter teaspoon or so of psyllium powder to each meal to firm up the poop. One of my Sphynx required psyllium husk powder for about the first year, then his poops became perfect on their own. Go figure.

It sure is! The kibble has the husk powder in it too I might monitor her and see how she goes, first poo so will see what happens, FYI this morning she ate all her roo feed his time it only has say 20% beef mince.

Thank you again for all your help. The raw food document you put up is fantastic and a great read the only thing I couldn't find in it was detail about the kibble ie wait a few hours.

Thankyou for that! I completely missed that whole paragraph!

Yes can confirm roo mix is going down a treat, she ate about 70 grams yesterday morning, half a bowl of kibble through the day then another 70 grams at night, resulting in a very fat bellied sphynx lol but good looking stools and we are already down to about 5% beef mince added in.
