RAW DIET - Sphynx Cat's poo

Why feed the kibble? I would do away with it if you are doing raw.

Doing the kibble still because the home she was at was on kibble only.

I am transitioning her to raw only so her tummy has time to adjust. She doesn't seem to like Tuna or salmon but she does like chicken and Rabbit.

Ophelias poo is killing me and is very loose. She's also still biting herself and has booboos now. What's the best shampoo to use for these sphynx babies and do you use lotion? If so what kind?

No lotion. It can have toxins in it that they lick. I use Earth Bath hypoallergenic shampoo on my guys. I would think your babe might have an allergy to something. What exactly are you feeding her? What was she eating before you got her? Are you bathing too much? What did they use at her old home?

So sorry you are going thru this. Deep breath, we'll try to help you figure it out. I'd make a vet appt, she may benefit from a depo medrol shot. And the sores should be looked at.

Okay the lady before me said she put baby lotion on her once a week. She bathed her in aloe and oatmeal shampoo from a vet (I bought some today) had previously given her a bath in something I forget the name but said it was earth friendly and hypoallergenic. She eating science diet metabolic dry food before coming to me. Since she's been on raw and grain free blue buffalo kibble. Starting tonight I'm going to only Natures Variety Instinct Raw. No more kibble for her and only feeding her twice a day. And she got a bath with the aloe and oatmeal stuff from the vet tonight. Tomorrow I'll wash all my sheets and blankets and her bath towel in dye free hypoallergenic baby laundry detergent. I'm gonna figure this out! Today had to go buy her a giant litter box cause apparently she needs more room lol she stepped in her seriously soft poo and jumped out then shook her foot and slung it everywhere lol yeah so again I say she got a bath lol I got her a week ago and this is her second bath. Lady I got her from said she gave her a bath two-three times per week.

Neenee is on raw because of pudding poo... No issues now! We use Primal freeze dried for ease. No refrigeration so we can leave some out or travel with some easily and no prep at all. It's not cheap but we love it!

Is soy good for them? Or chocolate? Never heard of that before. I'm giving Ophelia a little dry in between meals bit is Natures Variety Instinct with freeze dried raw boost. And their Web site says it won't upset tummy. She's just not used to the small amounts given with the raw so she's acting constantly starving. So supplementing just a little. But all reviews I've read say it's okay and that even natures variety instinct is closest kibble you can get to raw. So well see. I know all cats are different.

Yah! that's exactly what Ophelia is on now so hopefully in a day or two her poop won't kill me lol oh well she doesn't have the supplements whetted you get them?

Oh no! I meant that reading just then the comparison of sphynx poo to pudding made me change my plans about ME having my chocolate pudding for dessert!!! (I don't know about soy, but I'm pretty sure chocolate is a no-no for cats...) Sorry about the confusion, the comment was rather "oblique" !!!

You should never give chocolate as a treat because of a toxic agent in chocolate called Theobromine. It's in all kinds of chocolate, even white chocolate. The most dangerous kinds, though, are dark chocolate and unsweetened baking chocolate. Eating chocolate can cause abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures, and death by acting as a diuretic and increasing heart rate and loss of fluids.. Baking chocolate contains 10 times more of this lethal ingredient than milk chocolate.

Okay... let me jump in here and ask some questions. First off - I'm new here and am a first-time Sphynx kitten owner. I have only had Kojak for a little over 1 week and I'm ready to convert to raw food diet just as soon as possible if it means no longer wearing a gasmask around the house. Kojak has some nasty farts and poops that practically chase me out of my home!

I'm guessing he's a little young yet (born May 6 2014) to convert over to a raw diet or would need time to slowly convert over. (His breeder had him on Friskies Turkey Pate - so I'm working with that until I can convert him over to something else).

So I have a couple of questions:

How soon can he be introduced to a raw diet?
How do you convert over without traumatizing him? How slow of a process should the transition be?

I see someone mentioned Primal Freeze Dried food...

How long does one of those 14 oz bags last? It's pretty pricey ($20+ a bag) so I'm curious on average how many feedings I could expect from one bag. Do the big chain pet stores carry this product or is it something I probably need to purchase on-line?

I'm just starting my research on this topic, so please forgive me if there is info out there on this subject in the forums that I haven't stumbled upon yet. Thanks!

@PetitePuce you can start raw at any age. You don't need to transition slowly, just go ahead and start raw as soon as you feel you have enough knowledge. There are some hints and tips about getting them used to it. Kittens eat a lot of food! They should be allowed to eat as much as they want at each feeding. Good luck and go search the raw food posts here.

That seems like excessive bathing to me. I bathe fluffy and bane once a week to once every two weeks. I use 100% coconut oil before bath to loosen any especially dirty spots and then bathe them with Johnson and johnson baby shampoo and no lotion. Bathing that often can cause dry irritated skin. Thats probably why the lotion was necessary, and I don't recommend using the lotion either.

I cant believe a breeder would feed friskies >. <. Higher quality food is going to cost more but its also going to be better for your kitty. Before I started switching to raw I was feeding wellness grain free dry food. Now that im incorporating raw food Im feeding wellness grain free chicken canned. Just switching to canned made a huge difference. I buy a months supply for 50$ and it is totally worth it. Just switching to the canned has had greatly improved the smell of their stools. Ill spend about the same feeding prey model raw too. The younger you transition them the better it is. Kittens usually take to raw better than adult cats.

I was a little surprised about the Friskies as well - I'm going to transition over to raw diet. I placed an order for BITR and have hopes that Kojak will transition nicely to raw food.

You might want to check on your shipment if your order still hasn't arrived. I just received my shipment yesterday that I ordered on Monday. I live in the east coast and my understanding the product is shipped from the west coast so I was pleased with how quick my order was processed.

Maybe something has happened with your shipment if your still waiting.

I am eager to make my first batch of raw food this weekend to see how things go :happy:

@OpheliasMommy I am in California and BiTR usually takes about 5 working days to arrive here.

I get the biggest bag and they always send it in a medium flat rate USPS priority box.

However, when I got the sample size BiTR it took longer if I recall as it wasn't posted priority. No more than 2 weeks though.

No harm shooting them an email to check but I'm sure it will be with you soon!

I ended up getting it the day after I posted that lol I didn't get trial size I got next one up for 15 pounds. I've made up 7 pounds and Ophelia is loving it and her poops amazing still
