Hello everyone,
I found a sphynx in pretty bad shape that I am going to go pick up tonight once I am off work. I do have experience as I currently own two, although I do not have experience with sick cats/sphynx, as mine are healthy.
I am going to attach a picture of her. She looks pretty rough. My main concern is whether she would get my current cats sick? I lined up a vet appointment, but it's a week out I can't find anything sooner that isn't over 1k, which I honestly cannot afford. I know it is super risky going to rescue her, but I feel just horrible leaving her where she is in the state she is in. I would rather make some kind of attempt. What are the risks of bringing her around my cats? Can they catch something? Would it be okay for me to have her quarantined in the bathroom? Should I try to keep her at a different location if possible? I feel like I am asking the silliest questions, but I am so inexperienced with sick animals. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you!

Oh bless you. Did you by chance send a pic to the vet of this baby so they can see this is a baby that needs immediate attention? Maybe they can make a note if there is a cancellation and they can get you in?

Definitely need to quarantine. I would be sure to use antibacterial wipes and limit any chances of cross contamination from you to your resident cats. New litter box separate scoop etc as well. Please keep us updated.

Poor baby. Even if you plan to keep and bond her it's always best to introduce slowly and through closed doors so scent and items can become familiar as to not stress any of the cats. She will likely be timid at first, so extra love and separation is probably your best bet for a smooth and safe transition. Wishing you the best!

Thank you for the advice!
I will go get her new items and keep her in my bathroom. I feel horrible just putting her in my bathroom, but I don't have any extra space.
I'm honestly not sure if I can keep her but I do know I am going to get her and do my best to make sure she's safe and sees a vet.
When I seen her picture, I was like omg there is no way I can leave her where she is. I honestly can't afford to go into debt with vet bills, buuuut my heart can't leave her unfortunately. :ROFLMAO:

Dont know where you are. I googled “assistance with vet fees new jersey 2025 for cats” because I dont live there and it is a truly research for me and found available resources that might help. Maybe check your state or locality for assistance. Do keep the cats separate as said before and be sure to wash hands and anything she touches and keep disposables carefully stored. Prayers to you and her.

She's lucky to have you, the setup will be temporary until she's all settled and well. I hope everything works out for you both

Don’t bet upset about her in your bathroom. She will no doubt be happier in a quieter warmer place than at a shelter etc. You are doing a wonderful act of kindness. Keep us updated.
