Hello friends,

I wanted to share that I made an appointment for Astor's...god, I never know how to say it--no word or phrase is appropriate...for euthanasia. It's Saturday, two days from now.

He isn't suffering, but he's at the point where suffering is right around the corner and he absolutely will not ever improve. I wanted to wait until he seemed "ready," but I don't think he ever will be--I think a lot of animals in old age reach that point, but I think that death will take Astor by surprise...he's just too young, too full of life despite his body's deterioration.

I have to protect him, protect him from the pains and failures that his body will bring.

My veterinarian is coming to my home for the procedure, for which I am so grateful. I'll have my bedroom warmed with a space heater, and some gentle bird sounds playing, and I'll get to be with him and hold him and tell him again how very much I love him and how happy I am to have had him as my sweet baby boy.

Please send me your warm thoughts these next few days--it means so much to know I have fellow Sphynx lovers thinking of us.

Oh, Jenny, you literally have me crying my eyes out here. They say it's a beautiful thing to give your loving pet this gift. I have so much trouble saying, "Goodbye", but I've had to do this a number of times and it takes me a very, very long to "recover". :( :( :(

God bless you for being strong and making this decision. My heart goes out to you and your baby. I will be thinking of you for days and I'll get back to you to check in as well. It just can't be on Saturday, I'm really sorry. :( I have something to do. You will have things set up so perfectly for him. BIGGEST hugs to you.

This is so sad. I'm crying while I'm reading. What a wonderful mom you are for the loving way your going to let him go. Your very strong I just hope I can be so strong when its my time. He will always be with you. My love, prayers and thoughts are sent your way. We are all here for you.

I know this sounds strange, but I feel I know Astor. I've read all your posts about him and he's become part of our family.

God bless you and little Astor .

I have had to euthanise a beloved pet also. I am so sorry that you have to go through this. You have really thought of everything to make his passing be more at ease. He could have never had a more loving and thoughtful owner, and I am sure he knows this and loves you with all his heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you both during this hard time. Hugs

Before I got my naked baby, I had to make the same decision.

I had pretty much accepted that I would have to have her put down the night before her "quality of life" vet visit. She was 21, so she had a good long life, but it doesnt make it easier.

I'm starting to cry just thinking about her. The vet told me we could give her medication to help but her kidneys were going to fail, and she just had this sunken look in her eyes that day. I couldn't keep her here in pain just to make myself feel better.

I know I did the right thing and let her go, but it still hurts.

It's going to hurt for awhile, but I want you to know that what you're doing is one of the most selfless things one can do. You're letting him be free, and not have to go through the pain that's likely to come.
