After six weeks, we have been unsuccessful in getting Finn's red blood cell count back up into the normal range by increasing his prednisolone dosage. He's at about 24% and should be at 29% or above. The vet didn't want to increase the prednisolone any more than we have now because he's already at a pretty high dose. She also doesn't want to leave things alone and take a wait and see approach because his count could drop quickly and put him in danger. So, we have added the drug Leukeran (chlorambucil) to his regimen. He will be taking a pill once a day, 3 times a week. It's a chemo drug used to primarily treat leukemia and lymphoma, but it's also used to treat immune-mediated conditions like the one Finn has. I'm nervous, but I trust the vet and she has had good success using this drug to treat IMHA in some of her other kitty patients. Most cats are even able to be taken off of it once their count is up and stable. I'm hoping that this is the case with Finny. The bright side is that he hasn't been acting any different as the result of the lower red cell count. I just hope he doesn't experience any side effects from this new medication. He took his first dose last night and goes back to the vet for a check up in one week. Thanks for letting me share and for all the well wishes you guys always offer. It really does help.

Keeping in line with what this vet advises, Finn won't be having any more vaccinations either. I do know that from all of the reading that I've done, cats have a better prognosis than dogs with IMHA. Primary IMHA is also pretty rare in cats. It's usually secondary to another condition. Not the case with Finn. It's his own immune system doing this. I really should ask my vet about holistic options too that might help. Thanks for posting.

Sending hugs and headbutts from me and my 3. I ready hope this helps out. He is very young. I know that having a young cat that has heath problems is a lot to deal with. I have been though it. So I really wish him and you well.
