Wet to Raw advice

Hi guys.

I still don't know which other kitten is mine, but I know he'll be coming home in the middle of January so that's definitely super exciting.

I really want to put him on a raw diet (ground bone in with alnutrin supplement). He's going to be weaned onto dry and wet food and I planned on keeping him on that for a little while to make the transition into our home easier. How would I go about switching him properly? One of the biggest things I worry about, is that I'm going to be ordering off of Hare Today and to make that worth while I'm going to have to order quite a bit, which is an investment... Do I start with one protein and hope he likes it? Get a variety (which will be more expensive) and do one at a time? I know not to have too much variety when starting out and keep them on one protein for a little while before introducing a new one, but thinking about all of the what ifs kind of make me want to just keep him on wet.

Insight would be fantastic. I appreciate it!

Hi there. Rabbit is a good starter protein. So is turkey. Due to the high incidence of chicken allergies in Sphynx, you might want to stay away from chicken until your kitten has acclimated to raw. Alnutrin is a great choice, by the way.

I know that there is a formula for transitioning from one food to another and I'm sure someone will post it here. Just don't feed dry kibble WITH raw at the same time. But it's okay to have some kibble out between meals of raw.

I might also suggest that instead of buying a huge order, buy a small amount of one or two proteins just to make sure that home made food making is both for you and your Sphynx.

I ordered small amounts of several different meats to see what Ellie liked. I didn't want to invest in 5 lbs of something if it would go to waste.

Rabbit was the first one on my list since it's very cost effective. The minimum order is 10lbs, and I'm planning on him probably eating about a lb a day so I want to order enough of one protein so I'm not switching him up too heavily.

@Casiamri as @Xandria suggested I would start with rabbit. That's the taste most sphynxes like. If they won't eat the raw you can mix it with their wet food so the transition goes more easy. My boys used to eat dry and wet food but because of tummy problems I put them on raw food. They did eat it without a problem from the first day (and after a few days the tummy problems were finished).

Better not give raw food and dry food cause that can give tummy problems.

Oh and if you didn't know already how to transition them if they don't take to it easily, there are a lot of good threads on here. It took me a little over 6 weeks to convince Ellie. She would happily still scarf kibble if I had it in the house. How do I know? Aside from using it as a treat at my mom's house, she got into the fish food once. She was missing from my side for about 30 minutes so I thought I'd go look for her. When I found her she was on the bathroom floor with the bag torn open and scattered across the floor. She was licking up the teenie tiny fishy crumbles. Maybe I should have been peeved, but I was too busy clenching my sides from laughter.
