I plan on feeding raw -- ground for morning and afternoon meal, and would like to feed chicken wings & necks etc. for the evening meal.

At what age is it safe to start feeding bone-in meats?

Thanks much, everyone!

All the information about feeding raw caused my brain to implode. There is a tonne of intel on this forum and I had to take note after note.

Essentially (and people smarter than me, correct me where I'm wrong) it can be as simple as ground meat and adding a powder called Better in the Raw, or as complex as combining all the necessary bits in the right ratio (meat, bone, organ, liver + a few other additives).

But you do what you're comfortable with.

I plan on taking my stupid amounts of notes and then writing up something far more comprehensive and solid for my own brain to handle. heh heh.

I am feeding Stella & Chewys to one of my boys. It is probably the simplest, just put it in a bowl and rehydrate but seems a bit boring, and it's pretty expensive. But it still has the same benefits of other types of raw. Like Xandria suggests, check out Better in the Raw for an easy home made raw. I make a batch using normal muscle meat (eg. beef stew meat, chopped) and it is simple, cheaper and goes down well.

@Xandria I think you can feed bone-in raw from any age - never read otherwise, but be mindful about the size of it. Maybe start them off with some necks and smaller wings and see how that goes - cornish hen perhaps?

Good idea. I'm an unrepentant carnivore myself, so I'm a little bit excited to be feeding the nakeds raw. But I don't want to hurt them on any of the pliant bones. I'll try some small wings and give them a good whack with a mallet to soften it a bit. Thanks.

Yea you will want to soften the bones @Xandria. You can do raw at any age, it's just really really important to get your ratio of meat, organ and bone right. Under 1 year you should let them eat as much as they want, and trust me, it is A LOT! LOL

Thank you!

I think I'm going to have too much fun. I'm a foodie and cook from scratch. I can't wait to serve up some meaty eats for the nakeds!
