2 tough questions

Hello everyone ,

First question is for my baby adopted Sphynx who has HCM and a slew of other issues (she’s doing amazing BTW) but she’s a real screamer !!! Her next heart checkup and echo is in 2 months , however I was wondering if I can do anything to calm her down ? She’s VERY at home and since she really took control of the house she just runs around screaming all day and night . She has about 15 different sounds and I hear them over and over .. nothing is wrong , she’s happy , she plays , she eats like a hog etc. she’s just always screaming . I tried cat pheromones with zero luck . I do think it’s because she is not spayed and that’s really causing this and driving her insane . My plan is to ask my vet this time if she can be spayed, but they said with her short lifespan , they wouldn’t put her under anesthesia for this. Conversely , I think she would have a happier life if she could be … any opinions or thoughts here?

Second question and a tough one . My oldest Sphynx is at the end of his long and amazing life . He has the typical weight loss , he still eats the same amount and more that I give him , he drinks plenty , but he just keeps getting skinnier . I give him high calorie pastes and treats along with all the food he wants , wet & dry and he still grazes throughout the day . Please tell me there is so thing I can try ?!?!? I’m dodging the Inevitable , because I just don’t want to admit it , anything I can do ? He still acts very normal and loving but he’s slowing down.

And the worst question. When will I know I have to take him? If it’s up to me I will be by his side and never take him and let him pass in my arms , but I also want to be fair to him and I’m having a really hard time .

Thanks everyone !

@psusocr , hugs ... we are here for you. ( I will be able to reply more later on today) saw your post and just had to write . all paws are family. names again for all following. members will surely chime in.
I have been on the journey with spaying a sphynx with a bad heart . my vet used gas inhalant isoflurane and has other anesthesia meds she uses on exotics. my senior spayed bengal constantly meowing, vet wanted to rule out thyroid and said some cats with high blood pressure constant meow. yup, checked her BP and it was over 200 , got meds for BP and her IBD . when you talk with your vet, ask them about pyometera(open and closed type) that can be life threatening in intact female cats/dogs.

has your sweet baby girl and senior had recent blood work?
I always ask for a 'senior panel" which includes T4 thyroid test, urine and stool check with office visit apx $265.
my senior bengal had IBD and got prescribed Budesonide and gained weight back.

for your second question, for me, I always believe trust your gut.
Remember our babies live in the moment and only know our love. One thing I do when that tough question has crossed my mind with my pups, bengal and sphynx cats over the years is to make an appointment with my long time trusted vet for a "quality of life" heart to heart talk and exam and bloodwork and in my pups cases my vet took a no charge "quick peek" abdominal ultrasound . In the past with my crew, I did a 2 view xray of heart, lungs, abdomen for peace of mind for my decision whether it was time to be their voice with wings of peace and dignity in my arms.

When I got blood work back or saw xrays from my vet , in some cases was told, today is not the day and got meds and lived every moment a gift to the fullest. other times was told by my long time trusted vet I was not making the wrong decision. You know your baby best. I go through the same feelings and thoughts with my two seniors, 15 and near 16.
here for you, hugs n head smooches

Also can try b12 cobalaquin chewable…can get at allivet or chewy or probably petsmart or petco. I need to say that when your senior is in trouble you will know. Try the things out there for him and snuggle snuggle snuggle. Enjoy and dont waste your time together.

Unquestionably, the vet visits are in order. Having just given my Biscuit wings, I was out socially with my vet friend and he accused me of second guessing myself on the timing. I told him the moment we were looking at the next level of her care, that was when I asked myself if I was thinking of doing it for me or for her. At that moment we turned the car around and went back to give her the last gift we could. They agreed at the hospital it was right. You know.

Great advice given. Agree that the vet visits are in order. I understand dodging the inevitable, you will know when it is time as cliché as it sounds they let you know.
Keep us updated on the vet visits and how that goes. We are here for you.
