My kitten started breathing in and out really fast last night for a minute or 2 and I thought she was chirping at first but it looked like she was struggling to breathe or choking?

I figured maybe she swallowed one of my hairs and I kept an eye on her. This morning she was fine but then did it again. I'm worried.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain and she's eating, drinking, playing, sleeping, using the litter box normally.

Unfortunately, due to life I can't take her to the vet until next week when I get paid :/

@WaluigDee , hugs n positive vibes for baby Winona. hope it does not happen again and you can get into the vet. * can you call vet and asked to do payment plan explaining getting paid next week? if it does happen again, can you take a video with your cell phone?
I had this happen to my tobylove, thought it was heart related. took him to vet and showed video and his was allergy reverse sneezing.
if you have a video of it, please share here too and can email to your vet.
checked mouth to make sure no hair bands? check stool when she poops to see if anything in it that she might have gotten into.

*( I keep an emergency care credit card in my wallet, I got at vet , approved over the phone, usually with a 500 limit and can call back for an increase. I had an emergency with one of my pups and vet told me about it. ** ( it is extremely high interest and care credit only gets a 6 month promo if charge is over $200, otherwise it is due on the first due date payment , ** if over 600 and get a 6 month promo, sharing must absolutely make minium payment every month and the minium will not pay it off in 6 mos. I take the amount, divide by 6 and pay that. if you cant commit to it 1000% to stay on top of it, it is not a good option. I don't have pet insurance and if I did everything would be pre existing so I have to use care credit. I use for years stay on top of it and never paid a dime of interest).

I personally would still call vet and explain what her symptoms were and see what they say and if they can work with you.

following closely for updates on baby Winona. here for you.

Are you able to post a video? I’m just wondering what it looks like as you describe it as choking, but is it more like gagging? Or hairball behavior?

@WaluigDee , awh sweet Winona. how often does it happen per day? do you notice if she does it coming out of litter box (do you use scented litter), carpet powder fresheners? use essential oil diffusers are plug in glade like air fresheners that have essential oil? anything you noticed has been chewed or missing parts off cat toys? any plants chewed?

are you able to vet check soon? perhaps even to rule out seasonal allergies? my vet did a wellness check including good listen to the heart. with my Toby it was seasonal allergies, "reverse sneezing". is she eating drinking same? any vomiting or diarrhea? any nose crusties? runny eyes?
check inside mouth to see if anything stuck on teeth?

please keep us updated often. I know how hard it was for me to get a video .I was able to and of course when I got him to the vet , he would not do it. the video was very helpful along with the wellness check.

have you been able to call the vet and make an appointment in advance for when you get paid (some vets get booked up quickly and at least they can schedule you in asap or maybe they would allow payment or sign paperwork you will pay by a certain date.

? rule out upper respiratory infection?

hugs n positive vibes for sweet Winona, we are here for you

It's like gagging or not being able to breathe

I ask because some Sphynx like to groom their blankets and end up with hairballs of sorts. And of course, as Yoda mom said, there could be an allergy issue. Other possibilities are more medical in nature, so if you can’t peg down the cause or it gets worse (can’t catch breath, turning blue, etc) it’s best to see a vet.

(Never give without consulting with vet)* I will try to find my post from tobylove years ago. Hugs n head smooches. Does look like reverse sneezing to me , note I am not a vet.

Definitely looks like reverse sneezing to me as well. Common causes include allergies, asthma, local inflammation. Less common causes can include a fistula or tracheomalacia.

Show that vid to the vet and they can definitely confirm.
