8 hours and $180.00 later

Well after reading and seeing pics of the crafty Sphynx owners out there making sweaters, jackets etc..... I thought heck I use to sew with my grandma how hard could it be to get back into? LOL I spent about 8 hours this afternoon sewing two shirts. The first one I followed the pattern and it was way to big and bulky. The second one (below photo) was 110% better fitting and after making my own changes to the pattern Hairry looks very handsome.

Maybe in a few weeks and a many more hours of practice I can have this shirt thing down pat.

Love it! I haven't touched a sewing machine in about 15 years, and I recently got one to start sewing again. I sat down thinking the same thing - "how hard can it be?"

I suck at it!

I'm going to have to teach myself how to sew again, but I have no motivation to do it because I embarass myself with how awesomely bad I am at it!

Don't blame lack of skills for badly fitting Kitty clothes. I've been sewing for lots of years-making jackets, suits and even kilts. So I decided to make a dress for you-know-who last summer. I measured and followed the pattern I bought. The dress is too big, too bulky and when I put it on Cleo, it fell sideways! Cleo hated it and acted paralyzed. I will have to completely redesign the pattern! She will be lucky to get the dress for her 10th birthday (she's 17 months old now) .

Me too! My mom-in-law gave me the most spectacular sewing machine that I inherited from her mom and even though it is top of the line I can't sew for anything! I'm so bad at it I get frustrated before I start. I think it's just a case of getting your mind configured to it. Blergh!

Well done on the sweater Curlysue. I love the print and Hairry really does look dashing in it.

As for me I will just continue to pay others and buy from stores... as I figure I will save myself the stress and aggrivation! Plus, I used to make jewelery and was very good at it but really until I was done buying the supplies and my time I was in the red!

Well thank you for all the support.... So I had to share with you all I about killed Hairry with the sweater! So after his photo op for the Lair he took off to the dormer window (about 15ft up so going to get him wasn't an option). So I headed to bed and knew Hairry would be down as soon as he realized we were in bed. About 30 min later Hairry makes his grand entrance plops down in bed between Joey and I and proceeds to purr and fall asleep (sweater still on). Not wanting to wake the prince from his slumber I let him sleep in the sweater... not thinking I didn't trim the thread from the sewing machine! About 3am he starts acting like he was going to caught up a hairball, I spring into action scooping him up and putting him on the floor (puke on the floor is much better than puke in the bed). I realized he wasn't getting anything up so I wiped his face and felt the thread that had gone down his throat (still attached to the sweater) I pulled it out of his mouth and he started purring again! OMG I about cried! The sweater is still sitting on the night stand.... note to self cut all threads before having a fashion show!

ugh! Neenee will eat any string/ribbon left on the floor with the urgency of a dog eating a cat poo they found before the owner sees.

If she knows I am coming to get the string from her she will take off running with stull gulping it down super fast.
