Mau's mommy, Anna posted some lovely photos of Mau on Facebook. One in particular grabbed me by the artistic throat and demanded to be turned into a painting. I did my Photo magic and ran out a draft that shouted "paint me!" even more. I posted the draft on The Art of the Sphynx and let Anna know. She graciously shared it and this is where the teachable moment comes in.
Some folks seem to think it is their sworn duty to cause dissappointment and misery. A youngster on Anna's page pointed out more than once that he was sorry to dissappoint but what she was calling a painting was Photoshop. What got me was the tone. This child was not sorry at all, so I put this photo montage before you as an example of the process.
It begins with a photo which I manipulate to see if it will work on canvas. Once satisfied I grid out the canvas so the sketch is in proper proportion and then paint. It really is not brain surgery. Anna's draft is at the end of the montage and if she can afford it the painting will look just like that, except it would be 4 feet high, not inches.
As for the youngster, I leave this word of wisdom, it is better to keep your mouth closed and have people think you are a fool rather than opening the thing and proving so.
