A Teachable Moment

Mau's mommy, Anna posted some lovely photos of Mau on Facebook. One in particular grabbed me by the artistic throat and demanded to be turned into a painting. I did my Photo magic and ran out a draft that shouted "paint me!" even more. I posted the draft on The Art of the Sphynx and let Anna know. She graciously shared it and this is where the teachable moment comes in.

Some folks seem to think it is their sworn duty to cause dissappointment and misery. A youngster on Anna's page pointed out more than once that he was sorry to dissappoint but what she was calling a painting was Photoshop.What got me was the tone. This child was not sorry at all, so I put this photo montage before you as an example of the process.

It begins with a photo which I manipulate to see if it will work on canvas. Once satisfied I grid out the canvas so the sketch is in proper proportion and then paint. It really is not brain surgery. Anna's draft is at the end of the montage and if she can afford it the painting will look just like that, except it would be 4 feet high, not inches.

As for the youngster, I leave this word of wisdom, it is better to keep your mouth closed and have people think you are a fool rather than opening the thing and proving so.

Sorry for him Bob it angered me alot too, he can be an ass some times infact we used to be good friends now we hardly speak.

I never doubted one second that it was photoshop. I have seen all your work and in awe i look through all your work.

I love the painting and my parents had alot of good things to say - my mam is an artist herself so she was rather jealous haha

In the future i look forward to finding the best photo's to send along with a payment

Bob, I have a BFA and have a great deal of respect for someone who really practices their craft.
People don't understand that photoshop is a tool and I would really like them sit down and use it....

Well, I have had my painting of Izmae a little while, if I am not mistaking, I was
the first painting he did on sphynxlair.
I absolutely LOVE my painting more every day.
I am very glad I got it.
