Adding a kitten?

We rescued an ex-breeding male who’s on the older side. Love him so much!!! He’s a bit on the shy side and everyone keeps saying a friend would help him feel more confident. Plus, who can only have one?!? We are looking at some local kittens and there’s two that the breeder recommends for our family. They’re all neutered/spayed

Calico #2 was my pick from pics and brief description. She’s sweet and cuddly with the female owner, doesn’t much like the husband. Not shy per se, but not interested in me at the first meeting. Breeder feels treats will win her over for anyone

Orange male came right up to me and is a good mix of cuddly, but playful. Very confident! This is breeders top pick, but I’m worried about adding a second male (spraying mostly)

Didn’t expect lol: Blue girl is usually very shy and reserved, but immediately came to me on her own. Very playful with me…

I will be taking my 8 year old with me today to see if any attach themselves to her, but we’d love a family cat. Thanks!

How exciting. We have added males and females to our home. Supposedly orange (who are usually male) are the friendliest…glad you are going to meet them. Looking forward to see which one you pick.

Did you struggle with spraying if you added new males with another male? I know females can spray too, but wasn’t sure how difficult it would to integrate since our Zorro has been intact for so long

We never had an issue with our resident cats spraying when we added a kitten. Just be sure to have an extra litter box.

@Poodlemum , I have all adoptees, males and females. I did super slow intros, kitty safe room set up. (bedroom/bathroom).
I got anti icky poo (scented/and or non scented avail) to have on hand. (my vets office sells it, I found a gallon online chewy etc) . some get the feliaway plug diffusers. I have males and females. no problems.
it can vary cat to cat. and yes, you are right both males and females can spray.

we do have many that are just fine as the only cat in the home.

decades ago I adopted a newly neutered male bengal stud retiree. I watched him like a hawk when doing intros to make sure he wasn't spraying. I got a little Spot black light to check areas to make sure.

Zorro loves his widdle sister!!! I had my 8 year old come with me and we picked the kitten that didn’t seem phased by her silly playing/crawling on the floor. Cream is the sweetest little thing! Playful, but not unhinged (yet lol) and loves to meet EVERYONE. She had her first vet visit (vomited blood) and they couldn’t get a heart rate due to constant purring Luckily she seems fine now and the vet couldn’t find any issues
