Hey Everyone,

This is Dimitri, he is about 1.5 years old and my absolute pride and joy. I also have a black donskoy named Ivan... but this question is mostly related to Dimitri.

Over the past several months, Dimtri has had a lot of eye goop... he looks like he is wearing black eye liner despite cleaning his eyes regularly. Just seems to come back almost immediately. I took him to an eye specialist and they have said its because of the herpes virus... but the medication doesnt seem to be working. They are just doing the Cidofovir drops... though with my other sphynx they gave him high does of Famciclovir which seemed to knock out his herpes flair up.

Dimitri is constantly scratching at his eyes, ears and face in general and I just noticed a new bumps on his body. They are small but he does seem to scratch and bite at them. Do you think I am deailng with an allergy or have any of you seen this with the herpes stuff? I would love your thoughts. Sometimes he seems totally fine and others its like he cant stop scratching. Just worried he may be suffering. Did getting allergy bloodwork prove helpful for any of you?

- Diet: Raw from Viva Raw company... Chicken, Beef, Rabbit... (I could try going away from chicken but all of their receipes have egg).
- He does go outside in the evenings... loves to run around. I was thinking these may be big bites at first but they havent gone away and no one in the house or cat has fleas or flea bites.
- Did adding in fish oil help anyone?

I fee like its hard to see in these photos... but I did my best.

Often we see chicken being something they are allergic to. allergies can happen at any time in their lives even if they have no issue before. You might try eliminating one main protein at a time etc.

Oh bless poor Dimitri. I am sorry I can not help but his eyes really look clean in the pictures you sent. I have babysat a few Sphinxes and seen really bad eye muck that needed cleaning at least 3 times a day.

@Jacquiw7170 , so sorry your and sweet Dimitri going through this.

did the eye specialist rule entropion? yes, even hairless breeds can have it.

Entropion, an inward rolling of the eyelid, is more common in Sphynx cats than other breeds.

My Yoda boy was on several eye meds.
**** the one that helped alot for him was Idoxuridine, * you can ask the eye specialist/vet if or something similiar to it would be beneficial for Dimitri's case. Idoxuridine was discontinued in the US.( it has been years since my Yodaman) i found this and maybe ask your vet. :

Several alternatives to idoxuridine exist for treating herpes simplex keratitis, including trifluridine, acyclovir, ganciclovir, and vidarabine. Trifluridine is considered a more potent topical antiviral than idoxuridine.

Idoxuridine (brand names Dendrid®, Herplex®, Stoxil®) is an antiviral topical medication used to treat viral infections of the eye, such as feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) in cats

bought at eye specialist , at check out , staff told me to check other sources and they would approve. she told me to check samsclub , with my plus membership many of the eye meds were a fraction of the cost.

let us know of you are elimating one of the proteins to see if improvement if it is food allergy related.
perhaps keep him inside going foward and see if improvement.

following closely for updates, hugs n head smooches.
