just want to know, im worried abit. My 7 month old male had anesthesia tonight for an entropian operation. He took long to recover from the anasthesia and i have been sitting in front of the heater with him now for almost two hours and he still feels cool to the touch with some body parts like feet and tail cold. Surely this is not normal? Do sphynxes take longer to recover or should i worry? I have offered him a soft juicy treat that he always gobbles up but now he only smells and licks it

Have you called the vet? If not contact them and see if they can do the overnight watch. They need to regulate his body temp/fluids etc. Do not wait...and please update us @NourKotze.

I did call him twice actually and he said just to keep him warm. I am sitting with him by the heater and his body has warmed up although the feet and tail still cold, im gonna sleep with him on my chest so i can be awake if he moves and that way he will also get some body heat from me. The vet clinic closed after we left

We have seen some come through anesthesia slowly. If your vet is not worried it is a good sign. Do you have an electric blanket you can use? Keep us updated.

Did you wrap him up in a blanket/cover him? I find that's the best way for them to stay warm as it traps the bodyheat they generate. Ears and tails get cold very easily if resting and not covered. I guess it might not be too abnormal with the recent surgery but make sure he stays warms and hydrated and go to an emergency vet if he gets worse/stays lethargic and cold.

Well it was a terribly long difficult night maybe got two hours sleep, this morning Toby had a little bit of dry and wet food, he goes to the waterbowl and smells but doesnt drink i think his throat may be sore coz periodicly he coughs a deep phlemmy cough. @Hairless Blessing no i demanded NO Ketomine and they used an inhalation anasthesia. Been keeping him warm he demanded to crawl under the blanket and duvet last night so he was warm and toasty ❤ If he doesnt drink im gonna do the syringe also waiting for his eye drops and eye cream from the pharmacy. In times like this i wish i could rather have his pain Its sad for me to see him like this

Oh that baby. I hope today he starts to perk up a bit. They are typically fast healers. I think you are right about about why his throats my hurt, just like with people tubes down the throat during an operation can be irritating. Happy healing vibes are sent.

@NourKotze oh poor Toby and poor you. Glad to hear you were able to get his body warm and that he ate little. Hopefully he will start drinking soon. Sending healing vibes and cuddles to Toby and a big hug to you.

@NourKotze (((((hugs)))) and speedy recovery wishes sent for Toby.
I have used one of those microwave warm up rice packs to wrap in my bed blankets when my Toby had neuter surgery. ( double check not too hot on your own skin before using )
I use a snuggle safe disk now for everyday use.

Your Toby will feel soo much better once he is all healed from his Entropian surgery .
So glad he was warm and toasty under the duvet :)
I know it's so hard to watch our babies go thru surgery /recovery -
Just know each day is one day closer to being fully healed and feeling better

Please please keep us updated often

give Toby a great big head smooch from me
((( big hugs))) to you

I also talk sweet to them and tell them they are okay and will feel be all better soon
While lightly gently rub tips of ears in circular motion ( like Tellington t- touch ) and body in small light circular motions which is supposedly calming .

Feel better Toby !

Thanks so much Yoda mom, yes i keep on telling him that hes such a big boy and he will be running and playing soon. My only real concern is his water intake, i know his little throat must be sore after the op but he absolutely refuse to drink and this ends up me giving him water through syringe and he hates it and fights me

@NourKotze ,Ask your vet too of you can give him clear no flavor pedialyte for hydration - my vet said I could use it for my crew

I know mine hated the water in syringe plunger -
I found he did better with more often less amounts given slowly by syringe plunger to the inside of the cheek -
I literally wrapped him in a towel and kneeled over him on the bed
While gently pushing plunger syringe of water to the inside of his cheek and pushing syringe slowly

After a few days he got used to the routine ( I also value treat yummy ) on the towel right after giving him water. He my be scared because he can't see with sutures -
Try to go rel low with the syringe plunger water while talking him and see if it helps

Ask you vet if you can flavor the water with. A little low sodium chicken broth
( as long as no chicken allergies) , tuna juice or clear unflavored pedialyte ?

When is his follow up visit ?

Healing speedy recovery head smooches sent

@NourKotze , here are useful recipes to refer to / keep on hand for sick/ recovering kitties Susi member shared

here are recipes for kitty glop from susi

You can also feed him glop--it is extremely healthy and meant to fatten up sick or orphaned cats. Here are a couple of recipes for it:
ALTABELLA CATTERY'S KITTEN GLOP

INGREDIENTS:
1 lg. can evaporated milk (not Milnot)
2 tbsp. plain yogurt (not diet)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (real)
1 tbs. Karo Syrup (light)
1 pkg. Knox gelatin
1 egg yolk (beaten)
1 cup of liquid unflavored Pedialyte

INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix milk, yogurt, mayonnaise and syrup together well.
Bring 1 cup water to boil and mix in Knox gelatin; set aside.
Mix egg yolk with small amount of milk mixture and beat well.
Add gelatin and water to milk mixture and beat well. Add in egg yolk mixture and beat well.
Pour into a freezer safe bowl or similar type of bowl with a cover and set in refrigerator.
We usually use Ice Cube Trays for our glop pudding. Pudding will last for two weeks covered in refrigerator.
Always warm pudding to room temperature (milk form) before feeding.
It is very rich in calcium, this pudding can be used as a supplement for kittens, sick cats and show cats to put on weight. Several Veterinarians have approved this recipe as being balanced and nutritious.

FRANNY SYUFY'S ABOUT.COM GLOP

Popularly known as "Kitty Glop" among breeders, this recipe is packed with nutrition for orphaned kittens, nursing mother cats and their babies, cats recuperating from illness and older cats who need nutritional supplementing. Some recipes call for canned goats milk; if you have it readily available it's fine, otherwise canned evaporated cows' milk works well.¹ The recipe sets up to a gelatin-like consistency in the refrigerator, and can be stored there for up to two weeks. It can also be frozen in an ice tray for convenience in serving. To serve, warm to room temperature. Do not pour back unused portions into the mix.

12 oz. of water
1 envelope Knox Gelatin
1 12oz can of whole evaporated milk (not skim)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons plain yogurt, not nonfat

Boil the water, add the gelatin - stir well. Add the following ingredients in order, mixing well after each addition: 1/2 of the canned milk, mayonnaise and yogurt; the rest of the milk. Variations include the addition of kitty vitamins, acidophilus, and/or pureed baby food meat such as lamb, chicken, or beef. Franny adds: "I have seen variations with two egg yolks added, but I would caution against this, due to the risk of salmonella with raw eggs. For very easy mixing, you can use a blender at low speed, but I also like a bowl with a wire whisk."
