We started Neeners on Raw last Thursday(?)- Primal premade stuff. I had the freezer version and a freeze dried version.

She scarfed the first bowl of thawed food and seemed super happy about it. I thought I would have it easy at that point.

But, now she has to be coaxed to eat any wet version of raw (either premade or straight up raw meat). She will eat the freeze dried easily. I tried reconstituting the freeze dried, and had to add dried fish to the top so she would even touch it.

At least she is still eating the freeze dried. We’ll just keep working on it.

As for her bum & poos, it’s so-so. She stopped having pudding poos two days in- which is great because she isn’t getting rashes from pudding poo butt while we are gone. She is, however, still getting used to real poos I think. She seems to be pooing fine every other day but seems to walk around sometimes like she feels constipated.

I started adding fish oil last night- she needs that anyway for her minor arthritis issue.

Still charging along though!

Perhaps adding a bit of tuna juice will entice her to eat it again? Good luck, I hope Neeners will do well on it.

When I get my little girl home ( she is currently on Costco/blue kibble mix) do I just go straight for the raw in her dish? Cold turkey?

I did it cold turkey with Lenore. Her tummy was so messed up already, I figured it couldn't possibly get any worse, so I went straight to raw and in 24 hours her poos were 100% normal. Raw was a miracle cure!

I used a complete premix called "better in the raw". All I had to do was mix 1/2 cup premix, 2cups water, and 2 pounds of meat and just portion it out for each meal. It can't possibly get any simpler!

Oh and the better in the raw mix is available internationally as well, and VERY reasonably priced. It contains everything needed for a complete diet, just add water and meat of your choice. Several other members here use the same mix, and they swear by it as strongly as I do. It's great stuff!

So what should the average meal have in the bowl? I gues my major concerns is not having a balances diet off the bat ... They need taurine and then there is a need for bone I would like to know what is each bowl at each feeding on a 2-3 a day feed-- thigh/leg meat gizzards heart? Hummmm I am just trying to avoid buying a "better in the raw" type additive. And go completely natural. :)

There's a thread on here somewhere that tells what all needs to be in a balanced meal. I think the formula for prey model is 85% muscle, 5% edible bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs. I'm not positive though, so you should probably check it. I know sealysphynx feeds prey model, and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to answer any questions. Just send her a pm. :)

Completely natural would be fresh whole wild animals, like rabbits, mice, birds, etc. If you just fed readily available farm raised cuts of meat, e.g. chicken thighs, it would be less complete nutrition than if you combined them with supplements.

Check out catnutrition.org or catinfo.org for an example of a recipe with supplements and tons of information about why each one is needed. The commercial supplement mixes have similar ingredients and will save you time but will cost more than making it yourself. Everything should be easy to find except maybe taurine which you can get from a sports nutrition store.

These recipes talk about grinding the meat but you don't have to, most of it can be fed prey-model style in chunks and maybe just grind/chop up the organ meat to have something to mix the supplements with.
