Another newbie... Kimo-Therapy!

Hello everyone! I brought my baby home a couple of weeks ago and set out to get more info on ear cleaning and nutrition when I ran across this forum. I've been actively stalking the forum ever since! Thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself.

I am Julie and my new baby is Kimo. He's 5 months old and solid white. I'm finding that his being white means he is forever dirty looking. We've already discovered coconut oil and its wonders. I'm starting to look into his diet now. He was on a can of wet food in the morn and Taste of the Wild dry kibble when I got him. I am starting to run out of the TOTW now and exploring what we might want to eventually feed him. I'll be sticking with the TOTW and slowly changing it if needed. His stools have been mushy since I brought him home with a day or 2 of runny.

I have seen a lot of reference to raw diet but I'm not ready to tackle that yet. I haven't seen much on how to feed kibble... do they NEED the wet food too? Or can I feed dry only?

I would feed a Natural Food.

Welcome! I use Nature's Variety "Instinct" food for my Nudie. I feed her 1/2 can (3oz.) wet in the am and 1/2 can in the pm- dry available at all times to free feed

They say canned and raw are good because if the water content. I feed Gulliver instinct caned and bacon primal raw in the morning, and they free feed acana grasslands kibble

Cats are carnivores and their bodies are designed for digesting fresh meat. But like you, I'm not willing to tackle a raw diet. So mine gets Blue Buffalo canned and has Wellness Core dry down all the time for munchie control. Kitties really need wet food, that's where they get most of their water.

Welcome to the Lair. There is lots of great info here. I feed Kiwi Wellness Core and I am now starting to mix it with Call of the wild. Both are grain free. Core has 50% protein. I give my 2 cats wet food everyday.They like having food choices. Get a water fountian if you can. My cat love it.

She had horrible problems with diarrhea and vomitting on dry kibble and wet food. She is doing really well on Primal Feline raw foods, but it is quite costly. Post some pics soon!!

I free feed Butterball kibble. It seems to work well, although he is getting a little tubby. I found a relatively high protein kibble (name escapes me) that's inexpensive and Butterball seems to like it. I try to give him wet food occasionally but he just licks all the gravy out and leaves the rest. I've tried giving him people food but he just won't have it ever since the jalapeno accident. He loves temptations though.

I've come to the conclusion that most kitties have runny poos when they have a change of environment and/or food or both.

If your baby is not good about drinking water then yes I would keep giving the wet. All my cats have no issues with drinking so they only get dry food and I try and free feed, however my boyfriends cat is a fatass and always eats everyones food. So now it seems to be once in the morning and once in the evening.

Welcome to the SL. I feed only dry food. My Ismae is very healthy.
I have never had a issue with runny stool, even when I first got her.
Thank GOD. I have the food out at all times for her.

I just discovered Kimo has diarrhea and blood in it. I posted in the health/nutrition forum. Could use some help if you could take a look at that post. Titled Blood in Stool.

I feed mine Blue Buffalo dry and since I got them on this they have been doing much better. No stinky gas anymore. Can't wait to see pics.
