First we have 9 year old Ash with his HOCM, then our deaf, mute, toothless girl, Squeaks, develops Hyperthyroidism even though she's supposedly only 4, then we lose Ziggy, and now our 11 year old Wegie mix is being tested for CRF.

The only ones "healthy" are our 5 year old Coon mix and our three year old, one-eyed Siamese mix.

Ugh!

Thanks, all. He's at the vets right now getting sub-Q fluids and we should have the test results in a couple of hours. He's lost three pounds, too.

It is CRF. He's staying at the vets for IV fluids for a few days to see if that'll bring his levels down. If it does, then he'll be a good candidate for home care.

I am so incredibly sorry. I hope he can come home with you again for home treatment if you are able to give it to him. I pray that this bad news stops rolling in and that your family and your cats can have some peace. Losing someone we love is never easy, and if the vet feels he isn't a good candidate for home care, then at least you know you gave him everything you could and gave him the very last gift you had to give--an end to his suffering surrounded by the warmth of your love. If it is time to say goodbye, he will peacefully cross the Rainbow Bridge and sleep with the angels--and I bet he will tell them what a great family he had and how much he was loved. And having been loved is everything.

They ran a test today and the bad levels have dropped by half! After just two days of fluids! They'll run another test on Friday but we have an appointment on Saturday to learn home care and take him home!:BigSmile: Thanks for all the prayers!

We were traveling for the holiday so hadn't been on much, but we're home now and went to get Coal this morning. The test they ran yesterday indicated that some of the levels have continued to drop nicely, one dropped but not nearly as much as before, and one has raised. But they say they've seen this one raise and go back down as the kidneys adjust. So he's home with meds and sub-q fluids and will be tested again in 10 days. Current prognosis is fair - not great but not horrible. We'll know more after the next test.

Meanwhile got to see my dad - who will be undergoing his fourth heart surgery (another bypass after a triple bypass and stents) two days before his 81st birthday. And we became grandparents ourselves. So it's been a roller-coaster! :Dizzy:

Coal is beautiful and I am so happy that he's doing fairly well. Congrats again on your new grandbaby, and I will hit my knees and pray that your daddy makes it through this surgery with flying colors and that it gives him many more years to enjoy his life to the fullest.
Hugs,
Susi

Coal was retested yesterday and they're considering him stable. White blood cell count went down and nothing else went up, so they've changed his sub-q to three times a week and a retest in 6 weeks.

My dad came through the surgery however he is currently "critical but stable". They're keeping him sedated and intubated. His blood pressure keeps dropping. I'd like to ask for prayers please.
