Oliver has a few quirks that are starting to come out.
  • When he's really relaxed and purring, he'll start to try to nurse on my arm or neck.
  • He's gotten into the habit of taking a running leap at my chest when I'm sitting on the couch. It's okay right now because he's little, but it could become a problem when he's bigger.
  • He doesn't seem to know how to use his claws, except when it comes to picking on my bedroom carpet. He constantly slides off of my shoulder because he won't try to catch himself.

@ldlewis45 , all those are very familiar antics here - and mine are 4 yrs old!
-Mine bites my arm and nose in a fast swoop while purring- like an eel.. quick
- I added a dog mat to the bedroom for my carpet scratcher adoptees - it's the first place they go for a good stretch/scratch
-my chest is constant trampoline -I feel like I have heart shock defib paddles on my chest
-often find myself hunched over with the sloooow kitty slide down the back
-let's not forget the hair makeovers n head butts and head bites from the kitty perched on the back of the sofa

And racing to get to the toilet lid before it closes!

Sounds very familair @ldlewis45 !

-Toa likes to nibble on my ear
- He also loves to jump on me when I sit on the couch to do some kind of dance...he puts his claws in my leg and jump from right to left. I call it the "Happy Toa Shake".

- Ross likes to sit on my shoulder and cuddle with head in my hair

- both boys love to pretend they don't see my and just run over me while chasing eachother
- and they love to jump on my back from behind so I don't see them coming and they can scare the hell out of me

I love their habits:)

@ldlewis45

Ross just helped my remind two extra habits...very annoying ones:

Knockings things down (bottles, books etc) & climbing the screen door. It's me who thinks it's annoying. He feels like it's lot of fun of courseo_O
It sounds like you have your hands full with Toa and Ross!

It's been so long since I've had a kitten in the house that I'd forgotten what it was like. He's ready to play, play, play when I'm trying to go to bed (I work nights, so I sleep during the afternoons). Chewie is loving it, but I think Oliver would appreciate it if Chewie didn't sit on him quite so much (Chewie is 15 pounds)!

Let's see...where do I start? Cleopatra loves to push on paintings on the wall. She likes to watch them rock on the wall, and it's even better if they fall off the wall! She also LOVES to knock stuff off counters and shelves when she feels ignored. The list of items that she has broken on purpose include: a ceramic jewelry box, a collectable teapot, 2 vases, numerous picture frames, a Brita water pitcher (she was trying to stand on it) and at least 4 drinking glasses. Last night she knocked an empty plastic canister off the counter because I wouldn't give her treats. Luckily, it didn't break! She also wakes us up by complaining at us and biting us at 5 AM, regardless of how late w go to bed.

As far as Marcus goes, check out my latest thread--http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/a-guilty-boy.32521/#post-388233

Well Frida's habits are more like deliberate activities to elicit desired results, but sure we can call them habits.

One of her favourite "habits" is the morning wake up routine. First comes purrs and face rubs, then comes the face tapping, and finally if I have still not gotten up to feed her she will deliberately knock any small to medium sized items off the bedroom shelves onto the floor.

The shelf sweep as I affectionately call it is an effective attention grab in many situations. Like Cleo Frida's list of items she has Broken on purpose includes an assortment of valuable, sentimental, and potentially hazardous things including: a crystal candy bowl, 3 out of 4 handmade ceramic candle holders (these she seemed bent on systematically eradicating), several picture frames, handmade ceramic mugs, several glasses, a bowl of hot chilli and 2 lamps(Frida has a lamp obsession). Frida never knocks anything over by accident.

Frida also loves to sit on my hands while I'm using the computer. After all this is the attention pedestal right?

And let us go back toThe lamps. Frida loves lamps. She is obsessed. She seems to want to get as close to the source of light as possible. I'm not sure if it is just the light or the heat or what it is but needless to say I have had to replace many light bulbs because she has pushes over the lamps breaking bulbs. At least after the first two lamps that she broke( they had ceramic bottoms) I have learned to only have lamps made of less breakable materials.
this is just one example

I have to say I don't think I understand the difference between annoying and cute, maybe someone can explain this to me. I thought they were the same thing.

Monty likes to take flying leaps on top of my head at 3:00 am... I swear he waits for me to fall asleep... Then he spends the rest of the night trying to chew on any part of me that isn't wrapped tightly in blankets... I'm working on training him that teething is only for toys and not for unsuspecting family members, I think the dog is the only one Monty respects.

Izmae will run from the couch to a chest I have in the living room.
When, she wants treats. She will go into the kitchen and meow
when she is hungry. She either eats at 4:30 am when my Husband
gets up, or as soon as he leaves at 5:30 am, she will start on me to
get up and feed her. She won't quit neither. Moses, purrs, head but,
puts her face to mine and holds it their a second or two. To love me.
Walks all around my head purring, I just have to give in.
I get up and feed her.
Then, I'll lay back down and she comes back to thank me for 30 more
minutes. It's impossible to sleep :banghead::banghead: :cat::LOL::LOL::LOL:
But, she's sooooooooo worth it.

@naomi: you're so right! Annoying and cute is the same:).
This morning I woke up because Toa and Ross were chasing eachother. They run over my face jumped on my stomache. And when I looked at them and yelled "I want to sleep", they looked at me with the expression "if you want to sleep, then sleep. We don't want you to play with us!"

Annoying when they woke me up, cute when I opened my eyes and looked at them:).

@ldlewis45 : kittens make you feel yound and old:). My boys are ten months old know. When I play with them I feel like 6 years old myself. But after 30 minutes playing I feel like a 80 year old woman!

Great thread.

When Max wants to sleep under the covers with me, he VERY softly rubs his nose and mouth against my cheek until I lift the bed covers and he then dives under them and settles in the crook of my bent knees (I'm a side sleeper). If I'm not up by 6 AM (which I usually am), he sits on my pillow and "murrs" until I get up.

Max loves to be involved in his food preparation and jumps up on my shoulders while I prepare his food four times per day!

If anyone (myself, Hubby, or guest) sits and kneels on the floor, Max dives between the knees "into the cave" and pushes until you lift your butt up and let him run through.

After guests leave our place, Max sits in the hallway and cries at the door, wanting them to return.

During the day, when Max gets hangry before lunch or dinner, he jumps up on my desk and proceeds to knock my LEGO figs around and chew on my Loki LEGO keychain which dangles from my lamp.

Merlin will attack your feet if you are wearing socks if he is in a playful mode. But, he will not attack barefeet.
Udo is two and is 11.5 pounds of cat. He thinks he is still 4 pounds of cat. So imagine 11.5 throwing himself around pouncing on toys. When he bounds down the staircase it sounds like a person. He is so much fun but has no idea how big he truly is.
The girls like to do what we call drive bys....they will walk by your head and bother you for a pet and then leave only to come back a few minutes later. Never to settle in....arggggg....

Molly will stand and yell until someone makes her a bed and wraps her up.
She also likes to overshoot the giant rubbermaid litter box when pooping. Today I found a turd in the 1" gap of the handle on the tub. It was squishy.
Leo will jump from floor to my husband's shoulders now when hubby taps his chest.
Leo also likes to sit his butt delicately and nonchalantly on your foot, then slide down it quickly. Rubbing his pooter the whole way on the top of your foot.

I have both of them trained to come running when I whistle for them :)

Mulder doesn't have too many bad habits really! He used to do the suckling thing when he was content, but I had to put a stop to that since for whatever reason that noise wakes me up from a dead sleep instantly and it would happen several times a night. Now he just sits on me and purrs really loudly, which I don't mind!
I do find it hard to do anything on my home PC, that seems to be his favorite place for pets, lol! So I'll be typing and he'll jump on to the desk and walk around in front of the keyboard. Makes it hard to play games too!
Oh I almost forgot, he loves to shred paper towels and toilet paper...so we've learned to keep the bathroom doors closed.

Ponzu is a bit naughtier, I catch her chewing on stuff she shouldn't be ALL the time. When I yell at her, she sprints away trilling.

Luckily neither of them have knocked anything breakable over yet. Still plenty of time for that though, hah.

Nym used to do all of those, and we quickly taught her to NOT use us as spring boards. The claws still come out at inopportune times, but we all have accidents. The only habit she has that really sticks out, now, is that she'll lick EVERYTHING when she's hungry.

Smidget is just talkative.

That reminds me of an annoying Oliver habit, lol. He's taken a liking to licking my laptop. I have no idea why...

And another one I've discovered today: He's started taking flying leaps at my back every time I walk past the foot of my bed. He's done it at least 5 times today. Apparently it's a new game for him. He's only managed to hold on once, since he still hasn't figured out how to use his claws. The other times, he either slid off, or he scared me into turning suddenly and he got slung a few feet away.

Oliver was just on my shoulders and leaning down and licking my back to the point that it was painful. Couldn't think of why he was doing it until I realized that I'd sprayed a strong vanilla perfume on my back. Apparently he likes the flavor, lol.

Fluffy clears off tables, counters and shelves when she wants attention - we call it "cleaning". I too work nights and often times my mom will stop by just as I am waking up to either pick her up for library, drop stuff off or whatever. If I have not been attentive to Fluffy's needs and she has been cleaning in the bedroom, it is not uncommon for her to have knocked my books off my bedside table, water botttles, my glasses, EVERYTHING and my mom will usually start the conversation (mind you, after coming not only into my house, but my bedroom) with "Has Fluffy been cleaning?". I have learning a few valuable lessons 1) no breakable glasses with chocolate milk or red liquids and 2) Not to leave my medicine container out...when you are on 30+ medications per day for chemo and a stroke that equals approx 270 pills in a container that you must sort out if the cat knocks them over.

Moses, he drinks water out of EVERYTHING. Your glass, his glass, the sink, a bottle cap, the shower, your glass, your glass, your glass, his glass...your glass which now became his glass. He loves fresh water. He will try to pull a bottle of water out of your hand if you are drinking it. He'll go for the water glass over food - you can't leave a glass of cold water unattended because it's now his glass. He has even gotten his head stuck in a glass before trying to drink from it. oh hey...is that your water?
