I found some smaller deer antler chews today at the store... whaddya know, they seem to like them! I have been looking for something to help with their teeth cleaning. Leo was gnawing on it right away.... anyone else tried them?

I do know some dogs have broken teeth on deer antler chews..
I personally would not recommend for kitty fangs

These seem quite porous and have the "marrow" exposed... dont know if it is marrow or what, but the spongy inner part. Will see how it goes!

My dogs LOVE antlers. I get them the split ones. The cats never bother with them. These are all the chewed antlers I found hidden in the couches by one of my dogs hehe

Leo has a lot of plaque on his teeth, and I have noticed that just within a few times of him chewing that the pearly white is starting to come back on his back ones. Looks like it is helping to scale/ chip it away. Hooray!!

Well that's a great tip!!! Do you brush regularly at all? This sounds like a good helper or replacement.

We try to brush... I am not great at remembering. I have also tried the oral rinse in his water and the gel that you rub on their teeth. Now that I can see it is possible for the scale to come off, I am going to try hard to be more diligent. He is only a year old, the vet thinks that it may be an autoimmune thing causing his bad teeth.

I spent an obscene amount of money on a few slices of deer antler. Not one of my pets will touch them, not even my parrot.

I got these ones because they were surprisingly not as expensive as others that I have seen. $13 for both pieces. I have seen a small piece at the pet store for double that!! I found these in the pet section at bulk barn, they are from Canada.

I agree! I watched a 4 hour dental surgery on a healthy tooth needed to be extracted because the dog broke it on a deer antler chew. Dangerous business.

Yeah, I have hunters in my family too. Just make sure it gets cut in half or quartered so they can get at the marrow :)

If anyone around you has horses... ask them to keep the hoof rind the farrier trims off. And also bits of frog. (Horse frog, not frog frog)
Try those. Super smelly though, but dogs tend to go nuts for them.
Pixie isn't keen on the frog but gnawed a bit on the trim. (She's a fusspot tho)
Essentially you give them a thick chewable fingernail lol. Just make sure there are no sharp bits, or bits of hoof nail left in them.
