Some of you maybe remember my post (2 boys and a girl?) a few months ago where I said I was thinking about getting a third sphynx. I was very much in doubt and you all helped me to think it through! I decided to wait untill the end of the year (2015)/beginning of 2016 and see if by then I was still thinking about a 3th sphynx.

While I was doubting and thinking it through I saw a beautiful girl on the internet. When I decided to wait a few months I stopped looking at internet and tried to forget about the girl.

So here we are...around christmas I was still dreaming about getting a 3th sphynx. I realized it didn't matter to me if the third is a boy or a girl, nor the colour. I only know I wanted a rescue or a rehomer and not a kitten. Main reason to want a third is cause Ross loves to play and is very active. Toa is way less active and doesn't want to play that much. I try to play as much as I can with Ross (and Toa) but I see he's bored. Specially now in the winter when he can't play in the garden. So the 3th sphynx needs to be active:).

So I took a look at the internet on christmas. And you know what? The girl was still there! So I mailed the owner and we started mailing about the girl (April 1,5 years old). She was used to breed and is sterilized now. The owner need to sell her cause she is a military and was placed somewhere else. For that reason she can't take care of her cats aymore. April is checked for HCM and everything and she's healthy. The vet of the owner confirmed April is healthy. And the vet I go for my boys (who is a breeder herself) knows the cattery were April lives and says it's a very good cattery with healthy cats that are well taken care of.

The owner says she is very playfull and active. And she's an elf. It's not something I specially looked for, just saw her and did fall in love.

Friday I go visit her and if all goes well I'll take her home.

Still very nervous about it. Just so afraid my boys will not like their stepsister or that one of the three sphynxes will feel lonely or sad. I made the arrangement with the owner that I can bring April back to her if my boys don't like her or if there are other problems. But still I'm so nervous! Wish I could ask my boys what they think about it.

What do you think? Is it wrong if me wanting to add a third sphynx? Is three an odd number and will one be lonely? Or will it work out fine (knowing nobody can see the future but still...just want to know what you all think).

This is April

Personally, I think it's wonderful that you want to do this. & I completely understand. You have thought this over very carefully, and your reasons are sound. I would definitely say go for it. She looks very healthy and well taken care of. Honestly, you have done your research. Now you deserve to have another one! Please keep us updated.

I have a feeling that it might take some time but that before too long they'll probably be the three musketeers - driving you crazy but being so cute and happy together. From what I have seen of households with three sphynx cats, they all do just fine together. Hopefully she can find a balance of playing with Ross and chilling out with toa. How exciting!! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

@Toa and Ross , she is precious! Bless you for considering a retiree! Yup, my Claire bare is a retiree ( only had 1 litter , was spayed and hormones settled before brining her home)

I think only you can judge personalities for a good fit -
I would definitely ask about her personality and if raised underfoot or caged?
How long ago spayed? It takes some time for hormones to settle - my breeder kept CB till hormones settled -
Has she interacted with other kitties? My CB was a little hussy :)

I don't think an odd number makes a difference - it's more personality than quantity IMHO
I think a spayed female is a promising choice -

I found my Claire Bare shares her love with all the boys :) little hussy-.but ...does have a preference to sleep with Toby .. She wacks Yoda on the head to make him sleep a foot away while she sleeps with Toby-
Batman is happy sleeping by feet or between us- all bed hogs -
And is very bonded with Yoda I adopted them together- they are always two peas in a pod -
I was told a bonded pair when adopted but get along great with all

They all play together like a little herd and get Into mischief together -

You can take a hand towel scented with the boys during your visit :)

Keep in mind her full personality may not be shining during a visit-
But you will get a good idea based on breeders input and interaction

I like that her breeder is willing to do what is best for her and take her back if they don't get along -
My moms adoptee took 3 months to get along -
Mine right away -
except for Macie female Bengal- she was Yoda cats (female) buddy - when Yoda passed I got Toby as a companion -
She never took to him and rather be with me and looooves dogs -
Even though she was great with Yoda she wants nothing to do with the others -
It was just her amd Toby at first and she could care less for other kitties - surprised me bcz she played and slept with Yoda cat great-

In honesty , it doesn't surprise me - when i think back on her personality when I met her to take her home from a gal they needed to get rid of her that night -long story-
I got there and it was a crazy- Macie bolted between the dogs to under a bed - owner pulled her out-, she screamed , scratched me up getting her into the Crate - all within 3 minutes - chaos -
She beats own drum :) she hid under the bed for a month just to be petted by us- but slept on top of the bed with Yoda cat- she is my best buddy and head butts looooves dogs - doesn't bother with kitties - likes her own space play and cuddle with me just fine- she still won't let jimmy pet her for more than two seconds - and he gets soo excited when she comes up to him-

I know this is a long post , but wanted to share the point that it really depends on personalities not numbers-

And I couldn't be happier hoe my retiree CB fit right in with the boys :)
I would say go for it - all paws crossed for you and the boys and this sweet girl-
I know you have so much love to share and she would have a Purrfect loving caring home
And toe very handsome brothers to play and cuddle with -

You may need a bigger bed for get used to sleeping like a zombie as to not disturb the bed hogs
And extra Dabird Pole toys for each hand! Works great for socializing new kitties too!

Looking forward to positive updates! Very excited for you!

Wow, that is very exciting. She is a beautiful cat, and looks very healthy in the picture. It does sound like you've given things a lot of thought, and you have a plan should things not work out, so I think you should go for it :) I hope you'll have a smooth transition when she is introduced into your household.
I'm very excited for you and your boys ;)

I think you have been very good about really thinking through things and did not rush. Only you know the dynamics of your home. I certainly would never think you are crazy for wanting 3 wink wink. Good luck Friday.

Patti

Thanks Patti! Your support means a lot to me. Very nervous but on the other hand I can hardly wait till it's Friday:)!

Tammi, you're wonderful!! Thanks for your post and explaining the personalities from your sphynx. Claire Bare really has made a very good arrangement with all her boys:). You're right, it's all about personalities and I hope I can see a bit of April's personality friday. From what I understand she's very easy with all the other cats (the owner did have a cattery to breed but also had some rescues in now and then).

She was sterilized 6 months ago. Both vets told me that was long enough for the hormones to settle.

About being caged...I never even thought about asking that cause it didn't come in my mind that could be the case. Stupid me! I'll make sure to ask her.

And a great idea to take a towel with my boys smell.

Oh I already ordered a lot of extra toys and bought a few extra blankets. I thought...even if April doesn't come with me, my boys will be happy with it:).

Thanks again, this really helps me. I'll keep you updated. Will post as soon as I'm back home friday.

It seems as though you have got good advice. All I have to add is
I hope it all works out great with them. Good also, that, you, can
take her back, if, it doesn't work out. Best wishes.

Sounds like you are taking all the right things into consideration. I guess you will just have to go with your heart and gut.
I had one retired breeder boy, and Danser was supposed to breed too but lost her first litter and was spayed. The sisters Anna and Victoria were breeders too but they didn't come from a nice breeder. They are funny girls.
Girl personalities are different than the boys a bit. But, just as fun.
Best wishes...

@Toa and Ross , all paws crossed for a great visit with April !
Did you show the boys a pic of this sweetie!?
Prayers for a good fit and allergy free visit

Elf Cats: Everything you need to know

Al paws crossed here!

Thanks so much Tammi!
Only one more night to go. I showed my boys a pic and...they couldn't care less:).
Today an extra Da Bird toy, some more springs and an extra cat bed arrived. My boys sure did care about that:). Toa loves the new cat bed, he's already in it for 2 hours snorring and purring like crazy. Think they hope I come home without April tomorrow so they can keep all the extras to themselves;)

I'm so curious and nervous!

And thanks for the link. Didn't see that before. Going to carefull read it. I'll let you now if April is my new girl or not as soon as I'm home tomorrow!!

Wow, this is very exciting! I'm no cat guru but I do strongly believe that love is the best medicine, always. As you know my girl Fisen is adopted and has a somewhat shady past. We've been struggling at times but it hasn't even been a year and she's been so well adjusted into our house. I don't think you will have any problems if the princess is healthy. Just arm yourself with tons of love and patience and keep us posted. I for one wanna hear all about it! Good luck and we're keeping our paws and fingers crossed for you, Toa (my favourite toilet-cat) and Ross! (y)

Thanks so much @Zab! The tons of love and patience will be no problem for me. Hopefully my boys will have a little love left over to give to April if she indeed comes with me tomorrow.

Ooooh you should see Toa's face now...now you did shout out loud he's called toilet :ROFLMAO::D:ROFLMAO::p

How wonderful of you to open your heart and home to her :) I think you really thought long and hard on it and is a great thing! She is beautiful :) Now as far as them all getting along or one being left out, I don't have too much experience but I did add two kittens to our ne cat house. Was had been the only cat for 17 years and I was so worried he would become unhappy or mean to the babies. It helped him so much! He just loves the boys and he plays and runs around now like he did when he was young so for our family it helped. It will probably take time for them to all get along, but it might make things even better like it did for us. Happy thoughts being sent your way.
