Will you guys please send some positive energy, prayers, good vibes, or whatever else you’ve got to our chihuahua. Peanut was diagnosed with congestive heart failure years ago and we’ve been very lucky that he’s done well on the same dosing of enalapril and has only had to go on lasix twice. He’s been acting his normal self, running around trying to get the cats to play, etc. but last night he was laying on my leg and I realized his breaths were way too rapid. I counted 71 and then they finally slowed down to 57 which is still way too high. I put my ear to his chest and I can hear the fluid on his lungs. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well last night and called the vet to get him in today as soon as they opened. His appointment is at 2pm. I’m just hoping this is a random build up of fluid and not the disease progressing.

Sending prayers for Peanut. I hope the vet appointment goes well and that there's nothing to worry about now.

Well, we're back from the vet. It wasn't great news but it wasn't horrible. The good part was that there wasn't as much fluid as I thought. She didn't hear much through the stethoscope but it was visible on an X-ray. So hopefully the lazix will clear it up. The less good part was that she heard an erythema that's new. He's always had a murmur but we haven't noticed irregular beats before. So we'll keep monitoring it and see what happens. Thanks for all of the happy thoughts for him!

I don't understand how I didn't see this thread yesterday...sorry.

I'm sorry to hear that Peanut has heart problems. Thank goodness you are an excellent mommy and on top of things.
I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers your way that Peanut will be himself again and chase kitties. :Wink2:

He got his second dose of lasix today and his breathing rate is slowly going down. He’s a chihuahua so it’s hard to tell since they’re never truly “at restâ€. I swear he sleeps with one eye open! But it’s down to about 50 bpm and his breaths are looking more productive. They’re still too fast but I can see his chest and belly rising and falling more with each breath so they’re much deeper than the other night. So that’s a great sign!

Ugh...this is NOT how I was hoping to update this thread. I lost my little man yesterday morning. He started coughing Tuesday night and by 8am on Wednesday he was gone. I'll spare you the tragic play by play but I'm glad he's at peace now.

We spent yesterday crying so most of the tears have been spent but the little things will take time to get used to. Millie never sleeps with me but last night she slept curled tight against my chest under the blankets with me. I guess she knew I needed some extra love. It's been surreal watching Lucy run through the house by herself today. Normally there's a little chihuahua nipping at her heals barking. It's very quiet now.

I love you, Peanut. Have fun playing with Lola, Penny, and Noodle and I'll see you when I get there one day.

:Cry::Cry: I'm so sorry to be reading this. It hurts so bad to lose a pet that has become a family member. I've been there a number of times.:Cry:
Please know that I'm actually sending you hugs right now and I have tears in my eyes. I'm terribly sorry you lost Peanut.
