Howdy guys!
I hope everyone is doing well on this grey monday!
I have a question in regards to Cupid my youngest little baby. He will be a year next month and the cutie pie has always had a little bit of a habit that we just can't seem to kick.
He bites his tail and although some people think its cute, the vet has advised us that it is behavioural. We try holding it when he does it, playing with him and giving him as much attention as possible, sprayed bitter apple spray. But nothing is working. The vet was commenting on how cold his tail was and that if he didn't stop he could basically deaden the nerves resulting in amputation. :Woo:
HORROR SHOW.
So I was wondering if anyone else has had any tips/trick/hints and if they have any experience/success with what could work?
Many thanks in advance!

Wish I could help, but my Callie does the same thing. Not just biting, chewing on it.

Yikes. It seems like nobody has an answer and we are at our wit's end. Our guy is a year old and has chewed the tip of his tail raw. I know it hurts because he snaps at it and then youches and tries to run away from it. Nothing we do is working and he's completely obsessed with it. It's even changing his amazing personality. I feel so sorry for him, and nothing the vet did or suggested is working. I sure hope somebody out there has some experience and can help us.:Sweat:

My boys chew on their tails a little when grooming but nothing so serious... I don't have any other advice really...
Good luck!

Could it be something with his tail? Like something on the inside of it is hurting him? I know that when you clip a cats nail and you get too closed to the quick, they will quickly bite it to soothe the pain. Maybe your baby has something wrong with his tail? Like something is itching him badly or it's inside the tip of his tail, like one of his tail bone is broken (they have like so many bones in their tail it's not even funny) and he's trying to soothe the pain away? Has your vet tried x-raying the tail to see if anything is wrong with it? This can be why your baby keeps biting it's tail.

I rubbed a bit of tabasco sauce on the end of my cat's tail. One taste of that and he stopped.
...it is also what my mom did to me and my brother to get us off pacifiers as children. lol.
