Tanis dear, I am optimistic and you should be too. If you want to bring him back to your vet for a listen again in a few months, I will pay for the vet visit. And as you know, if there is a heart condition, I will fully support whatever decision you make. As for the urinary issue.. plz get his pee sample ASAP and get it tested.

Thanks for your support in this Dez, this really helps a lot.

A cat can be grade 2 and be fine.
Look at my Meeko.
She was 3 months when the vet heard a murmur and now she will be 10 in June.
You are lucky Dez is nice about everything.
Some breeders get crazy when you ask a question about scans.

I just spoke with the breeder and she says not to think the worst right now. He could grow out of it. There aren't any cases of HCM in either side so it would be such a small chance it could be HCM. Right? I'm hoping for the best. I'm going to attempt to get a urine sample to test it, just to check all the bases. He's fine and doesn't seem to be in any pain and he's running around and playing, but I just want to be sure with the kidneys because of how much water he is drinking. Oh man how did I get so attached to this little monster in 6 days?

You get attached to them in 6 seconds!!

At his young age, I would try not to worry - often murmurs at that age will go away on their own. Great news that both his parents scanned clear. and hopefully will continue to scan clear for years to come.

I always recommend having our pets scanned for HCM when they are adults, regardless, but especially if that murmur still exists into adulthood. Until then, enjoy your little monster! Good luck.

Hi For_Serious,
Just take a deep breath, and relax, it happens more then you think with young animals and children having heart murmurs that can go away, and is not uncommon. Just follow your vets instructions and your kitty will hopefully be ok. As far as HCM unfortunately no breeder in this world can guarantee their cats, or your cat will be HCM negative forever, this is why health guarantees are usually for a year. Looking up sires and dams and tracking bloodlines is great, but you can scan your cat till your blue in the face, once a year, every three years or every month, but 4 years later that cat can test positive for HCM. This is not a scary "Sphynx" disease, its a disease that cats, dogs, humans and any living creature can fall ill to. If your cat has symptoms then your vet will advise you if he recommends HCM scanning, so until he comes to this conclusion, hold your chin high, follow your vets instructions, and enjoy your kitty!

I'm sorry to hear your scary news. I'm praying that it turns out to be something that goes away in time. However, no matter what the diagnosis is (or turns into), ya gotta love 'em while you got 'em. After learning of my first HCM diagnosis, it made every second with my babies seem even more valuable and now I never take it for granted that they will be around. I kiss them every chance I get and always tell them I love them right before I leave for the day. Not that I didn't do all that before, it just means even more to me now. In the meantime, try not to worry about things. Here's sending positive thoughts your way! Big hugs to you & Keano!

Sorry to hear about the scary news. I'm so glad you have a supportive breeder. I have met a few means ones but I lucked out and found a good one too. They are rare. I'm sure everything will work out fine. We all get scared when we hear not so great news about our little ones.

I also have been trying to evaluate why and how we get so attached to these lil guys so quick and so hard!

My theory is the skin on skin contact. I liken it to the immediate mother/child bond. As infants, the first feeling a baby has is the skin to skin contact when they begin nursing. This immediately ignites the lifetime bond. The sphynx babies surely go through the same process once they begin nursing with their momma. So, what I am thinking is that since sphynx skin feels similar to human skin... we are signaled to feel the same about the kitty as we would with a human infant and vice versa.

Throw on top of that the waiting 3 months for you kitty to grow big enough to come home and you have quite an attachment. Okay.. and we haven't even begun to talk about how stinkin' cute, smart and loving they are. Now that is a recipe for a hard core love and possibly a serious addiction.

Okay all you ladies being to stinkin sweet. You have no idea how moved I am to hear appreciation for a good breeder. You've got my crying.

I have dealt with less than desirable sphynx people and those relationships have helped me build who I am as a breeder. And I am thrilled to know my efforts are appreciated. Every time something bad happens and I question why I am breeding.. the first thought that comes to mind is how happy I am making people. My goal is to share the love... share this wonderful breed of animals so people can experience this wacky, intense love with this wacky little creatures.

Thanks also Tanis for being a caring momma. Screening people for my babies is one thing but proof of integrity comes after the baby is in your care. I clearly picked a good home for Keano.

And thank you Tanya for encouraging me to become active on this forum. I had been a member for a while but didn't participate. xoxo

I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! :)!)

I just got my 3rd sphynx last sat and I already love him.
I think it is great that breeders are careful who they sell their cats to.
Dez all your sphynxs are cute.
I see the pics you post on facebook.
My sister got a Bengal and he had to be pts within 2 months of getting him.
His breeder has been great about everything and is replacing him.
The new kitten was born Jan 2nd and will be here in June.
The breeder is going to show him at a TICA show in florida before he ships him.

I just wanted to thank you guys so much for all of your kind words. I am overwhelmed with the kindness and quality of the responses. When I got home I put Keano in my room and came upstairs because I couldn't even face him. I was so upset until everyone started responding so quickly with encouragement and optimism.

I did my research but you're never guaranteed a supportive and kind breeder, and I feel so lucky. I can't stop telling everyone what a great breeder Dez is. I am so thankful that this forum exists, because without Dez and you guys, I would be a mess right now.

My baby boy Scrotie Otie has a heart mur mur. The vet had been hearing it since he was little, so when it came time to get neutered the ekg suggested an echo prior. So, as nervous as I was, I took him to get a $400 echo and (drum roll please ) it came back as a flow mur mur. Basically, it was a innocent heart mur mur that isn't of concern. I will probably have him scanned again in three years. My story just goes to show that although a scary situation it doesn't always turn out the worst. Just love him with all your might and you guys can get through anything!

I went to get a second opinion today at another vet and this vet heard NO heart murmur at all. He checked it thoroughly. He also tested the urine and said everything was normal. That's two vets and a vet tech that has said there is no murmur. How could the vet make such a mistake? She didn't really seem like she knew what she was doing either. She called in a young vet tech and said "there's a murmur right?" and the vet tech listened for 5 seconds and said "yeah." That's not even long enough to tell. On top of that she didn't even mention that it could be because he is young. Is this a money grab, or is she just a horrible vet? I'm relieved that he's okay but I'm upset that the made such a mistake. I think I'm going to call her.

Depending upon how many years she has been in practice I'm sure it could be a mistake but I would think she would have spent more time and made sure she was 100% sure before causing such an alarm. If you have a good rapport with her then I'd defintley call her. She may even have you bring your kitty back in free of charge just to double check herself. If I were a vet I'd want to know my mistakes! Did your second vet listen real good and again and again just to triple check and make sure he/she didn't hear anything? I really do hope all is well. Sorry you had such a horrible alarm. Ugh,,,talk about your heart dropping!

I am glad there is no murmur.
I would complain.
The are either money hungry or not very smart.
I would switch vets.

Yeah he said sometimes a vet can mistake breath for a murmur. He listened for a long time. He said if there is a murmur there he can't detect it so Keano will be fine. He was extremely sure. My mom has been taking all of her animals to him for a while and refuses to go to the place I went to. Too bad we didn't talk about it beforehand!

Good - I would complain to vet #1 then too because maybe you can recover some of your expense since you had to through out more money to find out they only made a mistake and it wasn't even nessesary. I'm glad your kitty is ok!!! Yay!!!
